The screen on my work computer's monitor flickers. Just a faint, rapid pulsing of light. My job consists almost entirely of staring at that screen, and it's beginning to drive me mad. It's a war of attrition on my retinae and on my sanity

I'll check the monitor and display settings on Sunday - I had thought that the refresh rate was at a reasonable 75 Hz but xorg or the monitor might be lying.

i don't actually know what "dreck" is, but I doubt your writing is that. i've told you a million times but i'll keep telling you until you believe me; it's beautifully captivating. you make something as bland as a visit to the bank intriguing. don't stop. write me a book.

also, i strongly support you getting a sketch book. it doesn't matter if it's any good or if artists are a dime a dozen. everyone needs an outlet, or several.

Seconding the book thing. I'm pretty sure yours is the only journal on here that I still read all the way through. Yours is the only one of which just skimming for the facts doesn't do justice.

As for everything else...sounds like Overkill to me. If you dont know that song then you should download it via some agent*, I think you'd enjoy it. If you cant for any reason(download it, that is. I can't do anything about you enjoying it), let me know, and I'll see if I can get it to you.

Also, if the monitor is older, even if it says 75, it probably isnt able to keep that speed up anymore. I'm assuming it's a CRT monitor and not an LCD. If that's the case, try lowering the refresh rate. This should hopefully result in a duller, less bright picture, but a more constant picture, meaning less flickering, less eye strain and less insanity-inducing.
