That sounds like Dementors. Dementors, here. This is...bad, very bad. Yes, I know of them. They're creatures from my world, cloaked monsters that absorb any happy feelings or memories from anyone around them, until only the worst are left.

They can drive a man insane, but worse, and far more likely with no one to control them here, they can administer something called the Dementor's Kiss. It sucks out a person's soul, leaving them an empty shell. Dangerous, obviously, incredibly dangerous. Where exactly did you find one?

I see. They do not attack physically, but on a more vulnerable plane.

Only in one of the farther out areas of the forest. They've apparently decided to stay there, instead of coming into the city.

They're apparently called dementors, and can pull out one's soul. Fortunately, they're restricted to the forest for the time being.
