[character]: Arystar Krory

[character history / background]: Arystar Krory was raised in a secluded castle in Romania from a young age. When his grandfather (his only guardian) died, Krory was left to isolation. His only other companions were the exotic flowers that his grandfather collected, which he was designated to take care of. These “rare and ancient” plants emitted terrifying screams that frequently scared off any guests to the castle, and so Krory was soon rumored to be a vampire.

As he grew older, he came in contact with General Cross Marian of the Black Order. Cross left a plant in Krory’s care, saying that it had once belonged to his grandfather and he was just returning what he had borrowed. Unbeknownst to Krory, this plant was peculiar. One night, the plant bit him and withered immediately after. Once this happened, Krory was thrown into a panic. He became sick, and all of his human teeth fell out, soon replaced with dangerously sharp new ones. These new teeth were a parasite-type Innocence, a power used to fight Akuma (a sort of weapon against the Black Order’s Exorcists used by the antagonist of the series, the Millenium Earl).

Since that day, Krory was prone to losing his self control and attacking the nearby villagers. What he didn’t know was that the “villagers” he chose to attack while he was not in control of himself were actually Akuma in disguise. The villagers did not know this fact either, and therefore they accused him further of being a vampire. He lived this way for years, and amongst the accusations and solitude he began to wonder if he was the same as his grandfather’s other collections. It was during this miserable period that he met a woman named Eliade.

Rather, he assaulted an Akuma named Eliade. But before he could attack, he became charmed by her beauty and fell in love. Eliade had been sent by the Millenium Earl to find Arystar and kill him, but likewise, she refrained. They lived together under the pretense of love until the arrival of Allen Walker and Lavi from the Black Order. They were directed by the villagers to eradicate the vampire Baron Arystar Krory III. However, upon further investigation, they were able to discern that Krory only hunted Akuma. Therefore, the theory that he was an Innocence user was introduced.

In an attempt to convince Krory that he wasn’t a vampire, Allen and Lavi also came to the realization that the woman named Eliade was an Akuma. Krory soon discovered this as well, which led to a battle between the two lovers. The end result was Eliade’s destruction, along with her final words of her love for Krory.

Devastated at having killed the one he loved, Krory was left without a will to live after the battle. He couldn’t believe what he had done, and said he had nothing to live for. Allen convinced him to keep on living and become an Exorcist to give meaning to killing Eliade. After deliberation, Krory accepted this offer. He destroyed his castle in a great explosion and joined the Black Order with Allen and Lavi.

With the other Exorcists, Krory traveled to China and took a ship to Edo on an assignment. Once in Edo, the Exorcists came in contact with the Earl and a battle began. One of the fellow Exorcists, Lenalee, was kidnapped and taken aboard Noah’s Ark (the Millenium Earl’s vessel). Once on the Ark, Krory engaged in battle with the Noah Jasdevi. He told the other Exorcists to continue on and try to stop the destruction of the Ark, which was rapidly collapsing around them.

The battle ended with Krory’s capture within a spike-riddled iron maiden. Thought to be dead, he heard Eliade’s voice and was given a second wind. He unleashed a great power and managed to “kill” Jasdevi (which has recently been revealed as untrue) before collapsing himself. Meanwhile, Allen managed to stop the complete destruction of the Ark and restored what had been lost. Krory returned, but remained unconscious for a great length of time afterwards.

He awoke from his coma some time later, only to be infected with a strange manmade virus known as the “Komuvitamin D”. It was not discovered that Krory was the source of the zombie-like curse on all the Black Order members until the end of the arc. Although he was given an antidote as things were wrapping up, he was soon infected with the virus again by foolishly running towards his infected friends and being bitten. The ending of the arc was ambiguous, but the continuation of the story immediately after signifies that there was a successful conclusion.

Currently, Krory is stationed in Russia on an unknown mission.

[character abilities]: Krory is an Exorcist of the Black Order, and thus he has an Anti Akuma Weapon known as Innocence. His is a parasite-type which replaced his human teeth with fang-like Innocence. He is able to ingest Akuma blood and break down the poison, and by doing so, his speed, strength and agility are temporarily increased. Another ability is the complete control of the blood in his body. He can inject his blood into Akuma through biting, thus killing them. He can also drain the blood from his body to act as a sort of winged puppet to do his bidding when his body is too weak. However, this greatly weakens him afterwards, to the point that he is unable to walk or even stand afterwards.

[character personality]: Arystar Krory has two distinct personalities. His predominant personality, which is considered his “default”, is that of a gentleman. He is soft spoken, uses polite speech, and is often over-emotional. It is not a rare occurrence for him to burst into tears, stammer in his speech or frighten easily. His second personality, active only when he has tasted Akuma blood, is the polar opposite of the first. Krory becomes arrogant, with harsh speech patterns and violent tendencies. He becomes cocky and even provokes fights. However, since this version of Arystar is only apparent when he has entered battle and ingested Akuma blood, for a majority of the time, he is the delicate-dandy as portrayed by his first personality.

Because of the seclusion to his manor his entire life, he grew without the acquisition of adequate social skills, but also with an insatiable curiosity of the outside world. This makes him appear to be immature and even child-like at times. But even given his lack of sufficient knowledge of the world around him, he doesn’t show this flaw openly. He is a very quiet person. Considering that he has had few friends in the past, he feels strongly attached to those that he identifies as companions. Thus, his loyalty to others is very strong.

[point in timeline you're picking your character from]: Chapter 186, before departing for Russia.

[journal post]: voice; H-hello…? I ah, I seem to have gotten a little l-lost. Ah… is anyone there? Allen…? L-Lavi?

[ A pause, and the sound of sniffling. ]

I’m not entirely sure where I am, b-but it doesn’t seem familiar at all! Could I… does anyone possibly have a map?

[third person / log sample]:

Cold. The floor beneath him was cold; that was Arystar Krory’s first thought upon waking. He lifted his head with a quiet, sleepy groan, and directed his gaze to the floor under his palms. His eyes adjusted to the dark, and he was able to look around. Oh, yes. He was in a shoddy inn’s room on the way to Russia with his unit. It had almost slipped his mind. Krory had been in a bit of a fuzzy stage since awakening from his coma, but not to a noticeable or inhibiting extent. It would likely pass soon. He breathed a quiet sigh of relief and got to his knees, long legs straightening underneath him as he stood. He padded barefoot quietly across the room to the doorway, which he slipped through to take a walk in the fresh air. He felt as though he had slept for an eternity, he didn’t need any more.

He had dreamed of Eliade again. While he had been in a coma not long ago, he only saw Eliade. He saw her take his hand, he saw her kiss his forehead and wrap her arms around his neck. He saw her fade away, and every time she did, he would wake from his dream. He dabbed his eyes with the handkerchief in his uniform pocket, breathing erratic as he walked under the stars. As his mind idled, he ventured from the path towards the foliage.

Flowers.… Back in Romania, it had been Krory’s job to tend to his grandfather's prized flowers. His grandfather’s pets. He had come to hate those flowers. It was his sole purpose, and it seemed his grandfather had intended for him to stay within the confines of the castle forever, alone. There were so many bad memories attached to flowers with him, and yet, he was also drawn to that familiarity. That nostalgia. He couldn't keep away, and he didn't want to. He wanted to revamp those bad memories into good, somehow. Incorporate flowers into a happier aspect of his life.

It was with this in mind that he began to pick a few, wandering slightly off the path but still visible enough to be seen rummaging around the bushes. A strange midnight hobby, to be sure, but it was one that helped him relax. He liked evenings, and whenever he found it difficult to sleep, he would walk outside and enjoy the night. Before long, he had acquired an armful of lovely flowers of every color and kind, along with a bright smile across his face. He gave them a sniff and sighed with contentment, turning to look at the inn.

Although he had voluntarily followed the path led by the Exorcists, removed himself from the fortress and the cage that was his castle, he was happy. He had made new friends, real friends, not just plants or collectible items. He was learning more and more about the world around him every day; even things such as window shopping were a fascination! But looking back at the inn, remembering Miranda sleeping there on the bed he had relinquished, he was reminded that these friends were also involved in the war. Indeed… there was a war. He couldn’t do what he pleased all the time, there were times he would have to fight. He would have to kill Akuma, just as he had done with Eliade.

But during the time he wasn’t, during peaceful interventions, he was surrounded with his new friends. He could at least find happiness in that. But these were friends whose lives were constantly threatened, friends whose futures were not promised. Krory felt as though he had to enjoy the time with them as much as possible, because who knew what would happen upon waking the next day? Who knew what was awaiting them in Russia?

When he returned to the room, he left a flower next to each one of the members in his unit and fell back asleep on the floor.
