My friend has the cannon and simply LOVES it.

I've played with it too, and I have to say I'm really impressed.

My bud had a $900 digital camera from Cannon before this one, and an ultra small elph before the expensive SLR type. He says this one is the perfect blend of features and size.

yup.. canon was definately the winner for me originally.. until a rash of mysterious cracked lcds all over north america.. apparently there are even websites with steps on how to replace it itself as canon charges $150+ US..

i have an elph, battery life is good unless you show the pictures to everyone a million times on the lc screen. I took 80-90 pics at summerfest and the batteries ran out on the 4rth day but i was showing the pics to to many people instead of waiting to get home. If you do get the sony buy those fancyAA batteries. A digital camera wil eat through regular batteries like nothing.

I know a little about camera's myself. Here are some bad things about the Sony.

1) Batteries Blah.... I had a digital camera that took batteries and I had to change them every 15 pictures that I took. My memory card could hold 1000 pictures but that didn't matter if I could only take 15 pictures.

2) Probably using Sony's proprietary memory card. I hate that Sony has come out with it's own memory card. I don't remember what it's called but I hate it.

3) The picture qualitiy of Sony is also suppose to be worse then both Nikon and Canon. But to take advantage of those features you would have to be a pro photographer.

That's my little rant about Sony. I don't think their is too much of a difference between Nikon and Canon. They are both really good brands with picture quality. I did notice that they are 7.1 Mega pixel. You will never use that. You probably won't even use the 5.1 Mega Pixel camera quality. Maybe you could save on MP and get a excellent camera.

Less MegaPixels... unless you are now a professional photographer and require the super mega high quality photos?

I know the squirrel would prefer if you used less megapixels and better lenses.

I'm not really into digital photography, but I've used lots of pro camera gear of the film variety, including Hasselblad, Leica, Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Mamiya, and the list goes on. I've owned a lot of Nikon gear, and would like to get a digital one, but if I did, it'd probably be the D70s or something with lots of manual control and bells & whistles.

My vote, has everything to do with brand loyalty! Nikon!
