Summary:Yoochun and yunho moved the body to the inn
Yoochun and yunho moved the body to the inn; jaejoong had allowed them to use the empty storage for their investigations and whatever. He didn't care, as long as yunho was beside him to protect him all the time and never leave him alone, then he was alright with anything
Laying the dead body on the desk yoochun began examining it, he squeezed his mind to remember everything he could from the lab and how they used to examine dead body there, he didn't have all the tools too so he had to be creative most of the time
When he finished yoochun, yunho and the rest of the villagers took the body to the cemetery to be buried in a little funeral. Everyone was whispering, worried and afraid about this, about the murder and the killer
'So, what did you find out?' yunho asked as the man was buried and everyone was waiting for yoochun to tell them what to do
'One slash in the chest, it hit the lungs and the heart so it was a sharp, half circled blade… but it was old, I found traces of rust in the wound so most likely it's the same weapon from the last time…the ropes left a unique pattern on his skin, it was tighter from the right than it was from the left indicating he's unable to fully use his left wrist, an injury or something…' yoochun whispered while looking around examining the villagers
'Plus,' he added ' he must be a man, a grown up, strong man, it would take a lot of physical power to submit a man and kill him with one strike, even if he's old'
Yunho nodded and his eyes too wondered around, eyeing everyone. When they fell on kibum and saw how devastated the boy was yunho couldn't but feel sorry for him, he was suffering again
'I need a room to question everyone here' yoochun hissed into yunho's ear
'They won't talk… I tried already but they say they would be killed if they spoke, they won't say a word to you' yunho whispered back
Yoochun frowned, he was expecting this. After all that happened before, people were scarred they would be killed too if they dared help him, so he would have to do all the hard work himself
'I'm ganna try anyway' yoochun hissed and went to the old man who was nearest to him, the man rushed away ignoring yoochun and his questions, so did the second one and the third… yoochun grew frustrated that he yelled at them now
'LISTEN! YOU'RE ALL SCARRED I KNOW, BUT IT'S NOT GOING TO STOP! HE KILLED SO MANY OF YOU BEFORE AND HE'S GOING TO DO IT AGAIN, HE GOT NO CONTROL OVER YOU BUT WHAT YOU ALLOW HIM TO HAVE! YOU'RE ALLOWING HIM TO USE YOU ALL LIKE PUPPETS AND HE'S NOT GOING TO STOP NOW, NOT WHEN HE GOT NO ONE TO STOP HIM, TO STAND IN HIS FACE!!'
Yoochun panted, it was too much to yell in one go, but he did it and looked around. The villagers looked scarred
'No one could stop him before… why, why would he stop now?' an old man asked, shivering
'This time something changed, this time there's one change' yoochun spoke with confident
'Yea, like what?' a man in his forties asked
'Me, this time you got me' yoochun assured them
'And what can you do?' a man spat at him
'I can help. Damn it, I'm the new head of the homicide department in Seoul. That, means I'm good…' yoochun frowned ' beside, if I wasn't good he wouldn't challenge me to come here and catch him!' he added
Everyone froze, some even gasped at the sudden information
'That's right' yoochun hissed eyeing them all ' you never wondered how come I came here just when it all started, did you?' he looked around at the horror filled faces ' you never asked yourselves why I left the big city and came here now, did you?'
Yoochun paused for a minute, watching and analyzing everyone's reaction before he spoke again
'I'm here because a letter reached my desk, a letter from him telling me to come here and stop him before he kills again, he challenged me to this and you know what?' yoochun paused again
'I'm ganna win this damn challenge with or without your help, because all your lives depend on it and I never allowed an innocent to die. Not on my watch!'
No one spoke now; they all eyed yoochun as he stood in the middle of them. Finally an old man, the oldest as it looked came forward and spoke
'I'm old enough anyway; I don't care if he decided to kill me… I'll tell you everything'
Yoochun bowed his head a little at the man; at least this was a start
Yoochun and the man went to a sideway room to sit and talk comfortably, as they sat down yoochun asked:' the forest… why does everyone fear it so much?'
'Oh my boy, since I was young it was said the forest was haunted, since back then no one dared to enter it…but, since ten years ago people began to actually believe it was haunted, they thought it was an evil spirit that killed all those people for dishonoring it'
'Bad spirit?' yoochun couldn't help but smirk. That was something he doesn't hear everyday
'Uncle, do you know if any of the victims did anything unusual before their death, I know the police asked ten years ago but still…'
'I don't know that much my boy, I know that before my boy was killed he went to pick up woods for the winter… usually we go to the fields and pick up the dry wood from there, but he said he knew a better place... he went there and when he came back he was all pale, he didn't speak or tell anyone anything… two nights later he was killed…'
'Which direction did he go to?' yoochun tried, he knew the man was old, he knew he probably wouldn't remember and that he would be suffering from a short trimmed memory or something. But, he was shocked for the answer the old man gave
'I saw him off, he walked straight forward out of the village, in the opposite side of the forest and then he took left, but there is nothing there, no trees and no dry wood…plus, when he came back his feet were muddy, just like your feet are now' the old man pointed at yoochun
Yoochun looked down, the forest's ground was muddy, he fell a few times running and his feet got muddy, he didn't notice it till now. But, if the boy's feet were that muddy, then he went into the forest, for sure. He walked away from the village so no one would see him and then made a turn and entered the forest
'Was it fall or winter when it happened?' yoochun asked, his mind was working overtime
'It was mid December my boy…' the old man sighed '…we ran out of wood so he went to gather some more'
'Correct me if I'm wrong' yoochun began ' but, doesn't bamboo wood need to be dried for a month before burning it, plus, it doesn't give much heat and can explode like fireworks. So, why would he gather it?'
The old man nodded his head, yoochun was right in that
Yoochun bit on his lip, his fingers itching and rubbing against each other as if there was a pen in between his fingers, he needed to twist a pen and think. If he could prove the other victims entered the forest and then he must search the forest to know what inside of it made them enter it
'Uncle, do you think someone lives in the forest?'
'There is nowhere to live my boy, there's no place to build a home in there, except for the shrine there's no other building that I know about, and I'm the eldest here'
Yoochun nodded bitterly
'Do you know a boy named Junsu?… around my age, slim with dark brown hair and dark brown eyes, he was wearing a white hanbok and holding a doll made out of bamboo leafs'
The old man frowned, shook his head and looked at yoochun:' I know all the kids in this village my boy… there's no one named Junsu for sure'
Yoochun frowned. Then, who was this Junsu boy?
'Uncle, do you remember how it began, in what order everything happened? Because in our report the order isn't clear'
'It didn't begin with murder you know…' the old man nodded and yoochun frowned, this wasn't in the reports for sure
'It all began a long time before the murders…' the old man spoke and yoochun listened carefully…
