Summary: Yoochun thought about it
Yoochun thought about it, the woman found in the underground cell in the mill had given birth, the ten babies they found and the killer… why didn't he attack him yet? Why didn't he come after him until now? It was as if the killer wanted him to know all this, wanted him to find out all this about him, about his past
… It was as if the killer wanted yoochun to reveal all the secrets of the past…
Why? Yoochun had asked himself over and over again while eyeing the bodies in front of him. Looking over and over again he noticed something, the holes in the ribs… they were different from each other, in some the holes were firmer and sharper than others
Yoochun began arranging the bodies according to the new idea he just got, when he finished he examined the holes again, it looked like the babies were his practicing targets or something, at the beginning the hole was uneven and unsmooth, there were cracks around it indicating too much power and an unskilled hand but as he moved on and on till the last body yoochun noticed how the hole was clean and sharp, one simple stab, he knew. The killer was skilled by then and could kill easily, no hesitation and mess; one simple stab will do it all
Why babies? Yoochun asked himself now. He needed more information, he needed someone who knew all this, someone who lived here long enough to know all this and he needed to get this someone to talk and tell him everything. Not an easy task, he knew, but it was an important one for sure.
When he walked out of the storage and back to the lobby he found his lover still reading and copying the book in his hands. Yoochun couldn't but wonder what did junsu really know? How much secrets did he know without realizing? A part of him wanted to go to the boy and ask him at once, try and find out already. But the bigger part knew that junsu is way too innocent to understand this, he knew the boy doesn't realize what he knows and how important it is. He must be patient and wait for the right time
Sitting down and waiting for dinner yoochun had a chance to corner changmin away from his lover, seeing that jaejoong wasn't allowing yunho out of his sight, yoochun thought that changmin must do for now
'I need you to think hard of someone old enough to remember the murders before when they began, he can't be crazy and he must be able to tell us back everything as it happened, he must be reliable' yoochun hissed and changmin frowned
'I thought you already knew about that'
'I did… I got some new information and I need some questions answered' yoochun tried to keep his tone as light and normal as possible
'There is…Choi shi… he knows everyone and everything…but he won't talk to anyone easily' changmin mumbled
'Who is this Choi shi?' yoochun frowned
'He's a farmer… used to be dad's friend…no one really likes him because he barely talks, but he always knows everything…and he's not crazy'
'Where does he live?'
'Oh, his house is the next one, the one to the right' changmin pointed to the right. Yoochun tried hard to remember the house in question. It was an old, run down house that looked abandoned. The house was simply too old, it looked like it was a hundred years old or something
…A hundred years old…
Yoochun widened his eyes, the house was too old, probably older than the village itself, and if that was right wouldn't that mean something… like the fact that the house could be connected to the passageways he's searching for?
Yoochun looked out of the window, it wasn't fully dark yet. He grabbed changmin and looked around:' we'll be right back, yunho watch over everyone' he yelled and pulled changmin out of the house before the boy could protest or anything
They walked to the house; yoochun still had his gun in hand, could his thoughts be true? He wondered. They knocked and waited, it took a while before an old man opened up and looked at them; he was wearing an old gray hanbok and looked pissed. Yoochun remembered seeing him a few times in the village.
'What?' the man hissed, not even bothering to let them in or be polite
Changmin looked taken aback, he was so close to bowing and going back to the in. yoochun, however, didn't seem effected by the rudeness
'The kidnappings, was that before or during the killings?' yoochun asked bluntly and looking at the man in the eyes
'Come in' the man hissed and allowed the two in. changmin was so shocked and yoochun smirked in victory as they entered. The inside of the house was as the outside of it, run down and poor. There was barely any furniture around and the living room was empty but from a few pillows here and there scattered on the floor to sit on
Yoochun sat down without waiting for an invitation; changmin did the same, still worried.
'How did you know?' the man asked sitting down in front of yoochun, the two didn't break the eye contact even for a second
'I found the bodies, ten' yoochun frowned ' with their hearts punchered'
'It was before the killing…' he began, still keeping the eye contact as he spoke, and changmin was as if thin air, neither men spoke to him, but he listened still. 'Babies began to vanish from their cribs at night…it wasn't something important because most of the cases were kept a secret, most of the babies stolen were the fruits of an illegal love, their mothers didn't speak because they didn't know how to explain their babies in the first place… but then it was the son of a farmer, and the people thought the problem got bigger. Everyone grew worried of their babies, they began locking the windows at night and staying guards… however the kidnaps stopped as suddenly as they began, and with time everyone forgot about them'
'And the woman who escaped with her lover leaving her husband behind around twenty years ago, what about her?' yoochun asked
'She was the wife of a warrior, her husband was at duty and it looks like she found someone else…'
'Does she have a name or something?'
'I don't know her name, sorry. She was never widely knows you see, she was young, got married and her husband was called for duty a short while after, she was left alone and so she had a lot of time to fall for another…'
'You don't believe those words, I can tell by your tone' yoochun smirked, never breaking the eye contact, not even blinking
'She's supposed to have run away with a man from the village. No man was missing after that'
Yoochun frowned, he though he knew where that poor woman ended, but he still needed to know why she ended there like this
'Was she ever found?'
The man shook his head
'Her mother went crazy, saying her daughter won't do that and that she was happily married and that she even suspected her daughter being…'
'Pregnant' yoochun finished for him, the man nodded
Changmin frowned. He didn't understand anything; he was completely lost between the two men
'Her husband didn't say a thing when he returned two years later; he didn't blame her or anything. He went back to the army and news said he died in battle'
The killer lost someone close to him yoochun remembered
'Then the kidnappings began, around half a year after she disappeared, that time Mrs. Jung's grave was still fresh and her husband was afraid about his son'
He didn't want his brother killing him the way he killed his wife yoochun knew
After a while everything calmed down, we thought it was the end now, between Shin Ree's incident and Mrs. Jung's sudden death, the woman's escape and the kidnapping. But the killing began then'
'For Shin Ree's incident a man took the blame, what do you know about him?'
'He took the blame for something he didn't do…he was so miserable and innocent, so weak that he couldn't fight back…'
'What do you mean?'
'You see, his parents found him with a man in bed, they were going to kill his lover, he couldn't let that happen so he took the blame for Shin Ree's incident and was killed instead'
Yoochun widened his eyes at this, this could be priceless…
'What's his name, the lover?'
'Park Eun Hwa' the man sighed, he vanished after the murder of his lover; chased out of the village by his dead lover's parent… queers weren't allowed in the village you see
'But there is more… you know more' yoochun frowned 'what about the killings themselves, what do you know about those?'
'I know what everyone knows, people were found dead in their beds for some reason, no one knew why exactly'
'You do… you do know something, tell me' yoochun demanded
