Summary: Yoochun thought some more
Yoochun thought some more, this was all too complicated; his hand ached for a pen so he could write things down, try and find a simple fact to add everything together, the still missing part of the puzzle
It all began twenty years ago, yoochun thought; it was way before any police investigation mentioned
It was something like this for sure:
First, the land owner was killed by the farmers over a hundred years ago
His son came to claim his right but was killed too
His son lived on and on, knowing the fact and hiding it; they started the tradition of the Jung scroll of confessions
Around twenty years ago a father raped his daughter, got her pregnant and tried to kill her. But she managed to escape to the forest and survive, the family was found killed but for the grandson who was given to his mother to raise him_ the first murder of the new era_
A while later a young boy was found with his lover in bed, his parents made him take responsibility for the Shin Ree crime and got him killed, his lover fled to the forest. Park Eun Hwa.
Two friends went to the army, two months later one died and the other came back injured, he was married yet he wanted his friend's fiancé, kidnapped her and raped her.
Kidnapping babies from their cribs began, ten babies kidnapped and killed, all by stabbing their hearts with something thin, tall and sharp
When Sun Hee gave birth he took the baby and killed his wife saying she died giving birth to the boy. As the boy grew older others noticed the similarity between him and the runaway girl. In the village they said the girl ran with her lover on her wedding night
Around the same time Jung Yunho's uncle began trying to kill his brother, a short while later he killed his wife
Kibum's parents came back to the village and his mother found her sister and began helping her in secret
Kibum's father got drunk and spoke about his sister in low being still alive and hiding
Yunho's father witnesses a crime, a man hanged on a bamboo near his ranch, yunho thinks it's his father so he hides the facts
A while later his uncle kills his father leaving yunho orphan, before being killed he hid the box with the stamp and the note about the passageways in the inn
Murders began to happen; people who entered the forest were killed in it and then moved to their beds using the passageways
Kibum's father seemed to have knew something about the killer, he gave junsu the doll and told him its name was Lee shi, the same name junsu gave the killer
The killer killed kibum's parents but spared him for some reason, he also didn't touch junsu who lived in the forest all his life
The killings stopped suddenly for five years
The village chief was killed and it was made to look as an accident or a heart attack, the village archive files vanished with his death
The killings stopped for another five years
The letter reached yoochun's office inviting, no, challenging him to come and catch the killer
The killings began yet again, this time he changed his style, people weren't killed in the forest but in the village itself, he didn't kill from up-close but used a weapon that enabled him to be away from the victim and sneak up on it, killing it without anyone seeing him around. The killer was in good shape to climb on the bamboo trees and stay balanced on them, however he seems to have hurt his shoulder and that's why he changed his killing style
He, as it looked, wasn't the only one investigating the killings, the old man who helped him before was gathering evidences about the case, he too was killed suddenly, his body was laid on the table behind the mill and left there
He killed junsu's mother but not junsu himself, again there seemed to be something stopping him from killing the boy
The first tunnel from the ranch to the mill, was used to kill yunho's mother and father, it was also used to kill the workers and to reach near the village unnoticed by anyone
The second tunnel, reaching the shrine, was blocked by the earthquake around ten years ago
According to junsu, the killer, or Lee shi as he called him, seemed to have lost someone in battle, he felt guilty about it and kept visiting him, offering food and praying for his soul
The third tunnel, yoochun guessed, must reach into the village itself, from somewhere around the forest, he still needed to find it
This man, Choi shi, seemed to know much about the killings, yet he was still alive… for how long?
Yoochun looked at the man, wanting to ask, to offer protection, but the old man smiled at him for the first time and spoke:' I'm not afraid of death, when my time comes to its end, I will end my life with my own hands, by my own choice, when I have no regrets left'
'Regrets? That's a weird way to put it' yoochun frowned
The old man let out a low sigh and looked up at yoochun again, his eyes held some strange meaning in them, yoochun wanted to press the issue some more
'Can you explain to me in words rather eye language?'
'I regret staying silent all this time, maybe if I had said anything…'
'You would have died like the rest' yoochun finished for him
The old man didn't answer this
'You don't belong to this house, the way you sit, the way you talk and even the way to look at the people; you're of a higher class so why are you living in a place like this?'
'Home is where the heart is' the old man whispered softly
'And your heart is here?' yoochun cracked an eyebrow
'Just like yours is at the inn right now… the place is in what meanings it holds, not in what furniture it has'
Yoochun didn't like this, how did the man know he was with junsu? How did he know he liked junsu? What did he mean the place in its meaning?
'The shrine… the shrine for those who died in war… where is it found?' yoochun asked, he could ask yunho, changmin or anyone about this, yet he wanted to ask him, he knew he should ask him not anyone else
'Nothing much is left of it, it was all destroyed when the earthquake happened…but the ruins of it still stand till today…'
'Where?' yoochun frowned
'You carry on out of the village; the shrine is to the eastern north'
Yoochun nodded his head; he should pay the place a visit… but not now
'What else? What else should I know about this village?'
'This village is not a normal one, its blood stained history makes things much more complicated, the villagers try to ignore everything and live on a normal life… but crimes of the past will hunt us down in the future and torture us in the present'
Yoochun knew this was another hind, the first one was home is where the heart is. The second was the place in its meaning not its furniture. The third one now was the crimes of the past will hunt us down in the future and torture us in the present. He had to think between the lines here and find out all the hidden meanings
'The butcher's son…Lee Sungmin… what do you know about him?'
'The quiet boy hides a lot in his eyes, the sadness and the pain is crystal clear in those eyes. He's was willing to do anything to get his father to like him as he grew up. Now, however, it seems like he's being tortured and chained down by his father…he's a calm boy, never was in trouble and never did anything to harm anyone… he liked to wonder around, though… he liked to wonder in places he shouldn't, he's a smart young man, don't underestimate him'
Yoochun's brain was working in a speed it never worked with before, going a million mile an hour, he was thinking of what the man said, of the boy… it was another hint, the boy was smart, chained down by his father and he liked to wonder in places he shouldn't … this was the biggest hint yet
'Did the boy ever find out about his father, the real one?'
'That's a good question…I'm afraid I don't know its answer…'
The man looked tired by now, yoochun's legs were hurting too, but he didn't care, he needed to know everything, he was going to know everything
'The last bit of advice I got for you is look beyond, try and look at the whole picture…don't find the killer to fill the blanks, fill the blanks to find the killer…nature do helps a lot when seeking the truth… go back to the basics…'
Yoochun frowned; he was lost now, what did this mean?
The man stood up, yoochun and changmin stood up too, the interview was obviously over by now
Bowing to the man and leaving yoochun was still holding his gun tightly; changmin just walked beside him, knowing that the killer could be anywhere and attack them. They had to be careful now that it was fully dark
Reaching the inn and knocking yunho opened the door and let them in, junsu was sitting aside and pouting at yoochun who walked straight to him hugging him tightly
'You keep getting late~ meanie' he frowned
'I'm really sorry love, I'll make it up to you soon' he whispered in junsu's ear
'How?' junsu blushed, he knew much more now, and the book he just read and copied happened to talk about sex, a lot, he knew much more about the thing now, he knew much more about everything now. Kibum, yunho and jaejoong were there to answer his questions just now no matter how embarrassed they seemed and junsu got the answers he wanted, with them questions seemed to pile up, too
'I'll show you soon' yoochun smirked, giving junsu a lingering kiss, junsu kissed back softly, gently and shyly
'What happened with you?' yunho asked
'New information, we got some field work tomorrow as well'
Yunho sighed, he hated leaving his lover, but if this meant catching the jerk and throwing him behind bars, then he was all up for it
'When's dinner?' he looked at jaejoong ' or are you planning to starve us?'
'I HAD TO REHEAT DINNER FIVE TIMES BECAUSE OF YOU! YOU UNSINSITIVE JERK!!!'
'Chunie… does this mean jaejoong is angry at chunie?' junsu whispered cutely in yoochun's ear, he hadn't heard those words before but jaejoong's tone was upset and angry, so he asked
Yoochun looked at his lover, seeing how cute he looked and how innocent his eyes were, he couldn't help but feel as if he was falling for him all over again…
