The Vampire Diaries -- I'm loving it

I just love this show.  The books left their mark on my adolescence, and I was concerned when I heard about the TV show in August that it would be Sweet Valley High: With Vampires.  I should have given it more credit.  ( ... )

IAWTC.

I am shallow and wish that if Elena had to be a brunette, that they got somebody more like Katie what's-her-face who plays Morgana. Somebody drop-dead hot. But I'm okay with the Elena they got.

So much love for Jeremy. Ah, that was an inspired substitution. Now if only there was somebody appropriate to slash him with.

I'm also impressed by their willingness to kill characters off. Obviously a handful of people, the major characters are safe, but they're keeping us on our toes.

Oooh, that would have been sweet. Katie McGrath is one of the most gorgeous women I've ever seen. At least it turns out Nina Dobrev can act, though -- I was extremely concerned by the pilot, in which her acting was so weak. It would've been really difficult to love the show if I couldn't stand the main character. (I blame Kristen Kreuk for why I never loved Smallville, even when it was a cute show. Her theory of acting appeared to be, "Just blink a lot, and keep looking down." The show had other problems, but she was a major one ( ... )

Yesss, I too am pleased with how Nina Dobrev's acting ability has taken an upturn. I thought we were in for another Smallville too watching the pilot.

Poor Zach. He seemed promising in a way. I'm sorry they killed him. And now they have no Mrs. Flowers to replace him. She was always good for a weird moment or three. I hadn't thought about the fact that all these deaths might lead to introductions of the missing characters. I bet you're right though, and we see Alaric become Bonnie's main squeeze. And maybe Caroline will be the flirt that Bonnie was? Idk. I can't wait though.

LOL, great minds think alike. The writers also have made her character more likable; I had trouble empathizing with her in the earliest episodes. It's an upward trend!

I was kind of hoping they'd do more with him too. I also miss Mrs. Flowers; one of the things I loved about the books was that things were frequently hinted at, but nothing ever happened that confirmed them (e.g., Mrs. Flowers being a witch). What do you think of the choice to approach Bonnie's abilities with a Salem witch explanation instead of the druid psychic she was in the books? Caroline does seem like a terrible wonderful flirt.
