Published m/m

I'm getting into published m/m again. Normally I have really bad luck and I'm really stingy with money sometimes so it makes buying books hard (I get really picky because of the price or content). Anyway, I recently read The Archer's Heart by Astrid Amara after a rec on the slash pile... I loved it. Which is really shocking since I went in thinking ( Read more... )

I have read none of those so I'm not much help... although if you do read A Companion to Wolves I'd be interested in what you think since I've seen that name around.

Oh I did like Tanya Huff's Smoke series, starting with Smoke and Shadows. The writing is not the best you'll ever read but I loved the characters and I became totally obsessed with the main character, Tony Foster, for awhile XD It's a very offbeat trilogy. Also the second and third book are written a bit more professionally than the first.

I definitely recommend trying to borrow any of these books from the library before buying them if possible-- because recently I bought some books even from half price book stores based on short stories I'd read of those characters in collections, and man. I didn't like any of them in the end. It was really sad.

But then also try checking half price book stores to at least get them cheaper.

I know nothing about any of the other books mentioned, sadly, so I'm no help.

The very unfortunate thing is my library only carries one book (Melusine) :/ otherwise, I'd borrow all these right away and decide to buy later if it's worth it. My library doesn't seem to have a lot of slash books, at least it feels that way... :/

I've heard of the Smoke series; I believe it was mentioned in a request post once or twice on TSP... I've been hesitant to buy it because the reviews I've read seemed very mixed (on amazon). But I just checked my library and they do carry the series :) so I'll likely check it out.

And I'll let you know if I read A Companion to Wolves. It seems highly recd and somewhat popular so it may be worth a buy (hopefully!)

I hope you do check it out! I think as long as you don't go into it expecting it to be this phenomenal writing style, and as long as you like kind of snarky characters, you have a good chance of liking it. I fricking loved that series but I could see why people may not find it to be their favorite. But then, I'm the kind of person who puts way more stock in good characters regardless of writing rather than writing that's technically "good" but with characters that fall flat.
