Kindle or Nook, and some ramblings

Nov 24, 2010 18:54

I want a Kindle… or a Nook… or, whichever’s better. I’ve been obsessively (on my free time that is) reading excerpts to fics, trying to find what sounds good and a prospect to buy or not. I’ve made a list too, just incase my parents decide to buy me one. Or I decide (if I end up not asking; or they don’t buy it), downloading the Kindle app to my PC ( Read more... )

nook, ramblings, kindle

Can't comment on your kindle/nook question since it is one I'm going through. Right down to being very jealous of HD space for the same reasons ( ... )

Thanks for responding! Everyone I asked so far hadn't read any of those books yet, but by reading reviews on Amazon (not the best thing to go by, but still helps), and reading excerpts, I definitely narrowed my long search down to those. I now have a better idea what I'll buy first.

Although it's rather frustrating, and hard, that quote (never heard it before) is very correct. I'll definitely remember that.

You have joined the crowd of milling people who are asking that same question. I'd say, 'welcome' but I'm still in the dark ages of wanting the physical book in my hands to sensually explore as the words stroke my mind. Still there's something to be said about being able to pick your book out of the air immediacy so I'm in the early stages of ooooh shiney.
Wonder when they're going to make the app to download your book and have it read the story to you? You could set it for a chapter and let it read you to sleep.
If there isn't such an app yet, I want part of the copyright.

I know what you mean. I'd rather read from the books themselves then through another devise; seems I do most my reading online now and rarely actually hold a book in hand anymore. But, unfortunately, the shipping, space, and the fact that I'm anal with my own books (as in I can't get comfortable reading them without fear it'll bend, become worn, etc), that the kindle/nook would be a good idea for me. It's a plus that they look so nice, too.

lol, hmm... wouldn't be surprised if there was/or will be some time soon! :D

Books I cannot help you with ;-) because I'm going through that. BUT BUT BUT

I've found a website that sell thing that are so cheap you can call it a games. ;) QUIBID.COM !!! You can get your kindle there. I SUGGEST KINDLE, since from what my friend said, nook get them trouble a lot. Also, if you have a iphone/ipod/apple then you can just download the APP for FREE!

Very late reply (sorry!) Thanks for the website, and the suggestion - I am still thinking on which is better. It seems the Kindle has better reviews, so it may be that one. Hm.

Hello, after seeing the newest post on The Slash Pile about a rec they had gotten from you I had decided to check into your livejournal and figured I would comment about Nook vs. Kindle (even though you posted this a few months ago ( ... )

Oh! I've been meaning to update my LJ for awhile now, but I ended up getting the nook color ;) and I love it! Mine glares a bit if I sit with it facing a window on a sunny day, but otherwise, it isn't troublesome for me since I'm used to the same glare my laptop does. And since I'm used to reading on my laptop anyway, the fact that it doesn't dim well doesn't bother me ( ... )

I forgot to say that I've yet to read those books I've listed (though have downloaded sample pages of a few on my nook). The Vast Fields of Ordinary I did read (got it from the library) and I have to say that although it was good, the ending sucked. It kind of put a downpour on the book altogether, to be honest. It's definitely not a book I'd want to own. But I mean, I'm particular about endings, so it could just be me.

I’m glad you decided on the nook :D. Ya I always read on my laptop before I got my nook so I am used to the glare as well, which is probably why I haven’t really noticed ( ... )
