just got happy
About a week ago I was over Jessica's house when my mom called. She wanted to tell me about becoming an Avon representative and how she'd 'tagged her 'hood,' by which she meant that she'd walked around her mobile home park and hung little bags with her contact information and an Avon catalog on everyone's door handle.
She asked me about Rob and my's trip up and if she'd have to pick us up in Boston or anything.
I'd been holding off on talking about that at all because the last time Rob and I were up North mom made a huge stink for days, and in front of her family, about how we wanted to see Aunty Ellen, Grammy, Michael, and Uncle (who at that point we hadn't seen in two years). She got my cousins in on it, trying to make me feel bad about wanting to see the other side of my family.
So, I decided right then that I needed to break it to her right then and she'd have to get over it.
I told her that Robby and I wanted to see AE, UK, Grammy, and Michael for a couple days while we were up, and I hoped that she wouldn't make a big deal of like last time.
There was a pause and she said,"That's fine." I hadn't talked to Aunty Ellen at that point about if she could pick us up from Logan and have us over for a couple days, but I told mom I would soon and then let her know.
Thank god. What a relief.
Robby and I are flying in on Tuesday, we'll probably drive up to Aunty Diane's for the Family Reunion on Friday and come home Sunday afternoon. Then we'll fly out again on Tuesday. We've got more time before the Reunion so Rob and I thought it would be better to see AE&Co. first.
I talked to Aunty Ellen yesterday night during Dad's nightly call to Grammy and she said she'd be glad to pick us up and have us over for a few days. She wrote us in her calendar.
Now, that those two things are taken care of I am actually excited about the trip!
Things I hope to do (other than MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF TIME SPENT WALLOWING IN MY FAMILY!!:D)
EAT AT NEWICKS! (Fish Chower, Fish Sandwich, Orange soda, express train to my childhood)
Drive by my old house, see how it's changed, see how tall the tree (elm?) in the backyard is
Meet up with Kelly and/or Lyndsay?
Candlepin bowling!
Spend a day at Fort Foster!
Walk to the Lilac Mall and recall long summers spent at mom's house
Buy a new painting from Aunty Gloria (have to stop in York on the way home from FF)
Eat various foods associated with mom/only mom makes/or I only make when I'm with her/only have up North (American chop suey, dirt cake, sundaes, 1/2&1/2 twist cones with jimmies, that's a lot of dessert)
I juuust noticed that Registration is open again, so I'm gonna go fool with my fall classes schedule.
