First Tutorial ever + a PSD of a wallpaper

Apr 26, 2008 17:15

This is a tutorial for some of the Disney icons, from this batch, and it's also my first. And because I suck at explaining things feel free to ask me if something is unclear :]
+ I added a PSD of a wallpaper from the same batch ;D

to

Open your image and crop it

Duplicate it and set it on Screen 100%
It's still a little bit to dark, so
Add a curves layer
RGB : 85 / 124
Red: 114 / 139
Green: 130 / 126
Blue: 133 / 114
You should get this:

I love exclusion, I use it most of the time, so make a New layer and fill it with something darkish brown, like #422A0E

It looks weird now, but we'll fix it :D

Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance and enter these settings:
MIDTONES: +25 / 0 / +15
SHADOWS: +15 / +5 / -35
HIGHLIGHTS: 0 / 0 / +15

Make another layer and fill it with a light blue, cyan (maybe #defbf7) and put it on Color Burn 100%.

Then duplicate the base layer, drag it to the top, and put it on Soft Light 57 %

Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance and enter these settings:
MIDTONES: +9 / -18 / - 37
SHADOWS: +6 / +6 / -21
HIGHLIGHTS: 0 / 0 / +21

To add a bit more blue in it, make a Channel Mixer layer
Set the opacity to 53%
Red
Red: 131
Green: -68
Blue: 0

Blue
Red: -42
Green: 103
Blue: 114
It should look like this now:

Next step is Selective Color

Reds: -33, +19, -21, +3
Yellows: 0, 0, +100, 0
Cyan: +100, -28, + 100, -8
Blue: + 100, -21, -100, -74
Neutrals: +6, +3, +2

Make another SC layer
Reds: 0, +18, +51, +22
Cyan: +100, -3, -100, +37
Blue: +100, -38, -18, +100

And the last SC layer

Cyan: -100, -37, -100, +27
Blue: +100, -14, +100, -13

At the end I added a white blob with the Brush tool, size 200 px, set it to Lighten or Screen 26%
It should look like this at the end;

I'd love to see your results! :)
And don't ask for a .PSD, because than you won't learn anything from this, try it and play with the settings a little, if you'll really have big problems with something, I'll upload the PSD for you.
Some icons with a similar coloring:

It doesn't look very well on them, so i guess it would be the best for some dark caps, and mostly for disney stuff :D

Now for the PSD, it didn't turn out exactly the same, but still.
If megaupload doesn't work for you, tell me and I will upload it to another server ;D
