i have an HP Pavillion dv2000
its a 14" widescreen and only 5 pounds

I have a toshiba laptop, and it runs great. I've had it for about a year now and it hasn't given me ANY serious problems yet. It's nice and speedy, and is great for most things. There's a few weak points, but those are more like gaming and such. Otherwise, it's great.

I dunno offhand.. RIT gave me some software at the beginning of the year. You can get pretty decent stuff from almost anywhere though. Viruses aren't actually as prevalent as you might think. You're more likely to get spyware or adware.

if you get a mac, you don't have to worry about viruses! (well, rarely anyway). i don't know if limewire works on macs, but you also don't want to get caught and tossed in jail by your college's computing services...be careful, my young pirate! (get it, pirate, piracy, johnny depp, haha, orlando bloom, so hott, ok i'm done now)
