Thanks for this post. :) I'm pro-minimum wage being raised on principle, but these are also compelling points.

Of course, the increase in the tax base is probably one of the reasons that many on the right are so vehemently opposed because that = big government (in their eyes), which is bad on principle in their eyes.

I know. Yet they also complain about people who need food stamps and housing subsidies (who wouldn't need those things if the minimum wage had come even close to keeping pace with inflation over the last 50 years) and magically expect the national debt to disappear and the VA to solve all vets' problems overnight while they reduce taxes on corporations and the very rich, who then funnel money into their campaigns to get them re-elected. They also never met a salary increase for themselves that they didn't love, and persist in funding defense projects that the Pentagon doesn't want because it brings pork to their home districts, also so that they can get re-elected. So they're against big government except in the cases where it benefits THEM.

In other words, welfare for corporations=good, welfare for the working poor=bad. Has every politician in this country been a loan officer in a previous life and believe that you should only give money to people who don't need it? I still cannot understand why anyone votes for bozos like this...
