I *think* some airlines allow pillows and blankets in addition to carry-on luggage, but I'm not sure. The best thing would probably be to call the airline and check with them.

little late, but I'd be interested in knowing the answer as I've been doing a lot of traveling lately

Well I was able to fit it in my carry-on so they let me take it along. You're allowed one carry-on bag plus one item, like a purse, shopping bag etc. so if you just have your carry-on bag you can put the pillow in a shopping bag and that's your 1 item.
