I met this Peruvian girl who was tabling with me for an organization and she is exactly the type of person that I would LOVE to be. She was smart and so motivated, telling me about all the scholarships she got to go to other countries so that she could do community service. I think the latter is more of a "better man than I" sort of thing. the thing you say you'd always do if you didn't have so many bills, or so many responsibilities, or whatever. I think you should do what makes you happy. If volunteering makes you happy, do it. If making your parents proud makes you happy, do that. You can also do both at the same time. If you're a big, rich, successful doctor, then you can afford to give money to causes, right?
