I spent most of the year I was 29 thinking I was 28. I don't think that happened since. I do remember asking my mother how old she was one time and not believing her when she said she didn't know. She was in her mid-30's at the time, I think.
I've been needing to do the maths in my head since about my late 20s. My thirty-three-and-a-third party last year was quite memorable, though, so it provides a new reference-I've had one birthday since then, so I must be 34. I'm kinda looking forward to 35, and 36 is a square, but after that it's a downhill slope, so I think I'll adopt your hex idea at that point.
