Their Dark Secret... A Special Request anonymous August 6 2008, 16:14:05 UTC
Anons... I have a very detailed request for you.
This is the story I cannot write. Please... I wish you to do this.

Mia Fey and Diego Armando look much older than they claim to be... It's because they are.
Twelve years older, in fact.

They met as teens, became friends and soon a couple. They experimented together with their newfound sexuality, never realizing that this, their greatest mistake, would someday change countless lives.
As adults they worked together as defense attorneys, resuming their relationship as if that single night of passion they had shared never happened.

Their love never died, even when Diego was poisoned. Even when Mia passed away.Present time, three years since Mia's death, Diego returned to the world as Godot bearing a heart full of anger. He blamed Phoenix Wright for the death of his loved one, blamed him for not being there to protect her from the blow that took her life and forced Godot to wake up alone ( ... )

She hadn't seen him in months, and the sick feeling never seemed to leave her in his absence. Mia began a strict training regiment at her father's insistence. Her mother and aunt were pleased at the man's encouragement and found many exercises to engage the young girl in. He kept his promise not to tell them of what happened, and she agreed to keep away from Diego ( ... )

The ride back from the clinic was dead silent. Mia sat up front with her father while Diego sat by himself in the back seat. She clutched the ultrasound photo in her hand ( ... )

She continued to pray everyday that the baby was a girl. Mia knew in heart that her prayers would be answered. She didn't listen to her mom or Diego, both insisted that the baby's gender had been predetermined at conception ( ... )

So, I'm that ditzy anon who lost track of this prompt and started to post a story in part 21. Another anon was kind enough to redirect me to the proper thread, so here I am. Just a warning, I have next to no experience with LJ, so I may make some...stupid mistakes.

After the fourth cup of coffee to the head, Phoenix probably should have called it a day; it was only the first part of his client’s trial and it would be easy to buy a third day, if need be, but goddamn it, there was an old record down here that would help his case, and he knew it! So, instead of going home and finding an ice pack like any sane human being, he was lurking in the courtroom library, looking for material he hadn’t seen since his college days. It just figured that this would be an evening case, too; it left little time to immediately follow up on leads, and meant that there was a feeling of impending doom (read: closing) when it came to the library.

Oh, and then there was Maya.

“Niiiiick, this is boring! Are we done yet?” The young woman whined, ( ... )

As she made her way back down the stairs, Maya sighed; she was headed to the library, again, ready to drag Phoenix out of the courtroom if need be. She knew he was only trying to help their client, but the trial would go fine without whatever he was trying to look up… The medium grinned sheepishly to herself; honestly, she didn’t even know what he was trying to find-she just knew that it was an exercise in futility. Better to go home and get some rest-take care of the mug-induced headache he’d been complaining about-in order to give one-hundred percent in tomorrow’s trial, as opposed to staying up to ridiculous hours trying to find some random piece of information ( ... )

“Diego!”

Godot froze, shocked for several different reasons. One, of course, was the fact that somebody knew his real name and had the nerve to call him by it… but that detail, and all of the others, paled in comparison to the source of the painfully familiar voice.

He half turned and, at the sight of the feminine figure, narrowed his eyes behind his visor. It wasn’t really her, he knew that, but the voice had been enough to make him pause. As he returned to the pitiful display before him, he heard long strides from the other side of the room, and found himself forcefully spun around to face the illusion.

“Diego,” Not-Mia hissed, eyes narrowed furiously, “You have to stop. Phoenix didn’t do anything to deserve this.”

Godot snorted and made a move to tear his arm out of her surprisingly strong grip, “You’re not real-how would you know what Trite doesn’t deserve?”

“He’s engaged to the real top prosecutor in the country; no matter how good you used to be at defending, you won’t get away with a crime you actually committed.” It was ( ... )

While Diego-or Godot, or whatever that idiot was calling himself, these days-stared into space, Mia took the opportunity to free Phoenix from the older man’s grip; it wasn’t a hard task to accomplish, given the prosecutor’s distraction. What was difficult was supporting her former apprentice-God, it was still hard to think that they were related, sometimes-until she’d put an acceptable distance between them and the only other conscious party in the library. After a moment’s consideration, she settled herself on the ground, careful not to jostle the other, and rested the young man’s head on her lap.

Mia bit her lip as she took in his injuries: most of the blood was coming from his nose, which had probably been broken, and he already had the beginnings of a black eye. The only other thing that she could say for certain, just by looking the lawyer over, was that his arm was definitely broken. She had to turn away when she caught sight of the red smear on her-Maya’s-robes, and it occurred to her that it was her son’s blood spattered ( ... )

(This is continued directly from the last part-- sorry, the character limits are...brutal, huh?)
------

There was a stony silence from the defense attorney-turned-prosecutor, and Mia felt her shoulders sag; there was no way she could force Diego to understand her plight. He probably didn’t even want to understand-it was hard to read his expression, with that visor hiding half of his face.

With a mental apology to Maya, Mia hugged the injured young man closer to herself and made one last plea, “If you’re still angry, take it out on me and leave Phoenix out of it. He didn’t do anything wrong that really mattered.”

“He let you die!” Diego roared, apparently forgetting that he didn’t believe in all of that ‘channeling hocus-pocus’, “Being your son-in theory-only makes that crime worse ( ... )

Detective Gumshoe wasn’t entirely sure what he’d walked into.

Originally, he’d come down to remind Mr. Wright that, if he didn’t leave the library on his own free will, he was going to get kicked out in a couple of minutes; on his way down, though, he’d heard a shout-shouting, actually, now that he thought back on it-and had assumed that it was just the defense attorney getting himself into trouble again. Well…it was, in a way, but not the trouble he’d imagined ( ... )

There were murmurs and stares from those who were still in the courthouse. It was understandable-they wouldn’t have heard anything from all the way up here. Gumshoe had been within twenty feet and it was still hard to tell that anything had been amiss. Not knowing what else to do, the detective rested Wright against one of the couches in the main lobby. It was as close to the front doors as possible, without going outside, and even Dick’s-admittedly poor-medical knowledge told him that that was a bad idea ( ... )
