"Sparrow's and my transition back to the Old Country went surprisingly well, in spite of all the drama with 'added security measures'. It was a four-hour wait at the port for leaving, but once we got there, we got out in record time.
"Sparrow's family have tentatively accepted me. Many in the roost here do not know me yet, but it is clear they are relieved to find out after a little conversation that I am just like them. After all, men and women everywhere gossip about the same things and are motivated by the same things.
"It's a bit humorous to once again be the largest beast in the woods. I don't really think about it most days, but I know I stand out and am being watched. Fortunately, most people are too polite to comment, and my bulk does keep undesirables away.
"I had a chance to spend time with the Sparrow's step-dad at his boatyard. It was a wonderful workshop, but it's painfully clear his management skills are limited. You love the man, but get frustrated because he won't let you help him.
"We're now situtated just south and east of the capitol, in a particularly green and rainy spot of woodland. Apparently Keith Moon used to live down in a house down the street from us, and single-handedly financed the neighbourhood pub for 10 years. The recording studio he and his band made famous is a couple of miles away from us.
"Two days after our arrival, Sparrow's grandmother (a White Owl) broke her wrist. In order to make sure there would always be someone close in case of complication, we were volunteered to stay at her roost for a few weeks as it heals. I don't mind, as it was more space than Sparrow's mother's tower, and a better beacon connection. She is a bit anal-retentive in her housekeeping, but she's nice.
"I met my new employer the other day, and she confirmed that I've been officially hired by them. I will be working as an artificer once again, but this time I will also be helping her to teach industry acolytes and paying stragglers my craft. If everything goes well (knock on wood), this will be my big chance to fill in all the remaining gaps of my knowledge.
"What's more, my boss seems really nice, informal, and very modest. Perhaps the hardest thing for me to do with this job will be to not show off.
"I do have a good feeling about the job, though. I don't know what's going to happen, but it's worth waiting and seeing."
