(OOC:Edited: >_> Stupid Live journal ate part of the log 'coz I missed > while writing a tag.^^;;;
It's fixed now~)
Snow painted scenery changed to dry lands in the boy’s vision as the he gazed outside the window.
He cranked up the volume of the mp3 player he was listening to, as he got off the bus once again.
He was sure he was visiting this place way too often.
Ken undid his scarf as the air was much warmer in Odaiba.
Momentarily the boy missed the feeling of white snow under his feet.
Passing by the familiar TV station, Ken looked at the watch. He was at least an hour earlier than he had anticipated.
Looking up, Ken started walking towards the meeting place he has set with younger Yagami.
...
Part of Koushirou wondered why he had agreed to come,
why he had suggested still meeting even after Miyako had claimed to have put the main issue on the table.
Maybe it was paranoia. Maybe he was afraid there were more skeletons in the closet.
Maybe he just wanted to see his friend.
Maybe he had just been rash… but even then there would have had to be something behind the rashness, right?
No matter what had led him to it, he had boarded the train after school and taken it to Odaiba,
and from there walked to the park where he now sat.
“This can’t end up any worse than last time,” he rationalized with himself, “she said she wouldn’t run away this time, right?”
...
Passing by all too familiar apartments where a particular purple haired girl lives, Ken reflected on that night.
Putting the sudden spang of pain aside, he kept on moving, slowly, and leisurely by the naked trees.
Ken wondered what he was doing.
Sure. His friend has asked him to come and accompany her to the performance area, but he also had a project due in two days.
…He really had no reason to visit Odaiba, at this time honestly.
After all, ONE valid reason for him to make the visit has gone away.
Perhaps, maybe, he wanted to just see her….
Wiping the thought off his head, the blue haired boy shook his head.
He shifted his eyes to divert his own thought, trying to focus on kids playing in the nearby park.
However, the boy found his gaze landed on a certain red head instead.
It took a moment for Koushirou to realize that he was being watched, and a moment more to realize just who the looker was.
He really didn’t know if this was a good or bad thing at all.
Maybe Miyako had invited him here too, right? It wasn’t beyond her to have invited both of them and not tell the other.
He ventured a small wave at Ken, not moving from the bench on which he sat.
Ken waved back and forced a smile.
“Hello Koushirou san.” After all, there was no guarantee whether the other boy knew or not.
For a moment, he wondered if he should just walk away or go start a conversation.
Deciding on the latter- but determined to make it short, Ken walked towards the computer genius.
‘Nice to see you, Ken,” Koushirou replied, a similar small, forced smile on his own lips. “What brings you here?"
“I’ve plans with Hikari san today. What about you Izumi san?” Awkwardly, Ken seated himself beside the older boy.
Koushirou inwardly frowned. That was not the answer he was hoping for. "Miyako-san said she wanted to meet me here."
“Ah.” Ken nodded and stayed silent for a moment.
He paused for a second to gather his thought.
Should he ask Koushirou why Miyako was asking him to come or....just go for an escape?...
But his thoughts were interrupted by two words coming out of Koushirou's mouth,
their volume low, though the thought behind them sincere.
"I'm sorry."
The younger boy shut his eyes.
So he knew… He felt something stinging his heart, and his cheeks becoming flushed.
“About what?” The boy was shocked himself as he heard his blunt and cold words hit his own ears.
"Your breaking up with Miyako-san," Koushirou replied, his voice not changing much in tone.
"I know this was probably the last thing you needed...."
Ken felt his throat chocking up. Now this, really wasn’t something that he needed.
He stared at his feet as the mixture of emotions hit him hard.
He stared at his feet as the mixture of emotions hit him hard. His cheek was on fire, and heart pressed with stone.
On one part, he was tempted to just leave, another punch the guy, but another telling him he's innocent!
God damn it. That's right. He was INNOCENT.
“It’s okay.” Ken commented dryly.
"If there's anything I can do...." Koushirou started, not really sure if there was anything.....
Ken turned his head around and stared at the older boy. Giving him the look of disbelief, Ken shook his head.
“Well, What do you feel about her?”
Ken continued.
"For sure, it's up to you to tell me your opinions on this issue, but I would like to know, if you didn't mind telling me.
I know I have no right, to know, since it's your privacy... And well, aside from letting me know your opinion there really isn't anything YOU could do senpai. Since it's NOT your responsibility."
“I mean. It's life. Stuff happens, and shit happens too."
Ken bit his lower lip. "...and I know to deal with them by now." Or so I'd like to think.
"That doesn't make it any easier," Koushirou returned, thinking back to, well, most of the events that had made up his past month.
"As for Miyako-san, she hasn't exactly been the easiest person with which to get along recently, if you know what I mean.
She hasn't been herself at all, and as her friend I'm concerned, but first she doesn't tell me anything and then she blames it on something so illogical that it just might make sense although I don't know whether I can trust her with it and..."
He paused, first looking at the indigo-haired boy at his side, then the ground, then Ken again. "You don't need this."
Ken sighed. “No I’m okay… Go on.” The younger boy inquired.
Koushirou shook his head. "It's a long story, it really is. Now's probably not the time or place."
He paused for a moment and looked at his friend,
"The point is, she really hasn't been acting herself lately and I don't know what that means."
“She isn’t the easiest person to understand, though it’s easy to see something’s troubling her.”
Surprisingly, hearing Koushirou was helping him calm down. Ken paused to think a little.
“When you say she hasn’t been acting her place, what do you mean by that? has she done anything peculiar?”
it was the redhead's turn to sigh. "You have no idea."
Ken raised his eyebrow.
Great. Another person wanting to hear his life story. Just what he needed. But still, Koushirou carried on.
"Well, a week or two after Halloween, she came over to visit. I was… still pretty unstable to say the least. She came over and offered me a listening ear.” He gave a dark chuckle. “Wrenched more out of me than I intended… I don’t even remember what all I told her just then. But then she started crying. And I’m curious as to why, of course, since… obviously she wasn’t crying when she came over. But she refused to tell me anything, even after the fact. “
“Another week or so passes. This is about the time you came over now, I think. She does it again.
Comes over, tries to wrench more out of me, leaves crying, everything.
I know something’s wrong now, but she’ll hardly even acknowledge the fact that I’m asking!”
His hands clenched slightly on his pants.
"It seems like everyone is interested in what I have to say. Like all my problems are suddenly the most interesting thing in the world.
But when I try to find out anything about them, I'm not worthy of their time or something. And it's not just her! But I digress.“
"After this, just a few days ago now, actually, she starts asking me strange questions.
Mimi-san was joking to me about something on my journal... and Miyako-san asks if that was the kind of girl I wanted to be with.
Completely out of left field."
One more pause, one more deep breath.
"I think you see the pattern. She expects me to answer her questions, do what she says, but refuses to give me anything in return.
It's annoying, almost to the point of infuriation!"
Ken shook his head. “You win.” With this, Ken got up and tossed his hand in the air.
Koushirou looked up at him, white-knuckled hands still clenching his pants. "What does that mean?"
“She’s insecure, obviously. And she is anxious about the place she holds in YOUR life. Of course you’ll be the objective of her inquiry as she’s interested in how YOU feel about HER. And she can’t come out and straightforward clarify the feelings she holds with you because she at time was dating…” Ken paused, and breathed out. One of his hand on his chest, he spat the word out. “Me…”
Ken lowered his head.
The frown on Koushirou's face deepened.
"Has it occurred to you that she wouldn't ask you how you feel about her and where she lies with you because she already knows?"
Ken let out a defeated sigh. “Even if she did I’m sure she meant no harm.”
“I mean don’t you know by now, as well? How she reacts to issues?” Brining up a hand to his chin, the blue haired boy continued.
"She... would first find something out. Then she gets overwhelmed by it. She's sensitive and emotional,
so she would let her emotions run wild and then, get insecure....
When she’s stressed, it’s easy to tell because even without trying her face gives it away.
You know. That frown of hers… At times like that, she down right panics and either ask someone to help her out,
or clumsily force herself onto what’s seemingly the cause of it…
She knows she have to act on something but that doesn’t always mean she’ll do what’s right.”
Ken took a breathe.
“She’s just as confused and frustrated as rest of us, and usually she just wants to be comforted.” With this Ken smiled weakly.
“Not the best approach to other people at certain times you know…”
"She has an odd way of showing it..." Koushirou commented, cynically. How did Ken know Miyako in such detail?
“I’m sure you know it too.” Ken sighed. “After all, you’ve been around her longer than I have.”
Koushirou shook his head. "Not like that."
“Well….Just…be nice to her. Please...” Ken looked at Koushirou sincerely.
“I mean, I can understand why you would be so frustrated, and upset, but all in all, she’ll probably be devastated if she feels you’re angry with her.”
Koushirou frowned. He wasn't quite sure how decent he could be with here at the moment... with her at least.
But he couldn't be bitter... he shouldn't be bitter at least.... An idea came into his mind. "Can you stay a while?"
Ken tilted his head to side. He quickly checked his watch.
He still had about 40 minutes until the meeting time with Hikari. “I could.... but why?”
"You'd probably be better at dealing with her than..." he looked down. Coward.
Ken backed away a step. “I’m sorry. I cannot do that.”
Koushirou nodded. "You're right. I shouldn't have suggested...."
Miyako didn't want to meet with Koushirou. What could she say to him in person that she hadn't said to him? She made a vow though, to tell him everything and be perfectly honest. The only thing she couldn't tell him was Momoe's secret. In truth, that plagued her more than anything else.
Miyako saw the park and saw Koushirou standing where she told him to....with Ken.
Miyako's heart sank.....why was Ken there? This complicated matters.
Miyako swallowed her tears and came forward. She waved to both men and forced a smile.
"Hi guys!" she tried to sound cheerful, she tried.
Taken by surprise, Ken turned around. "Ah. Hello Inoue san."
Greeting Miyako rather stiffly, Ken turned to Koushirou and bowed.
"Well then, I guess I'll take my leave. See you Izumi senpai."
Koushirou looked at him desperately for a moment.
The more he thought about it, the more he really didn't want to be alone right now.
"Why not wait here, Ken? You said you were meeting Hikari-san anyway? Maybe the four of us could get a drink or something together when she gets here."
Miyako's instinct told her to run, to run all the way home. Hawkmon landed on the ground next to her.
Miyako started to back away, this was too much. Hikari? What was Ken doing with Hikari? Why was she so....jealous?
Hikari was dating Takeru, it was friendly. But...Hikari....she couldn't face her too right now.
Miyako wanted to run home again and crawl back into bed.
She turned around to leave, but found Hawkmon blocking her exit.
"Come on, Miyako-san. We just go here. You've barely greeted everyone."
Hawkmon bowed. "Ken-san, Koushirou-san."
Ken respectively bowed to Hawkmon. “Konnichiwa.” Ken turned around to face Koushirou again.
“I’m sorry Koushirou san, but I must decline. Yagami san and I aren’t meeting here, but elsewhere.
Plus, I believe you have something to talk about with…. Inoue san.” Ken glanced at Miyako.
“Well then…” With that, Ken turned to walk away from the place.
Koushirou stood up. "Please?" Coward, coward, COWARD!
Troubled, the indigo haired boy looked at older boy, and then glanced at Miyako.
“I can’t leave Hikari san waiting, but I guess I…. could stay shor-“
"I...I hope you have a good evening, Ken-kun-er-san"
Ken smiled awkwardly as he found his comment interrupted. Scratching his head, he turned to Koushirou.
"I...don't think I'm wanted here Izumi san."
"I..." Koushirou looked at Ken, and then Miyako. He didn't want to be alone. He really didn't.
Even if it was weak, he just... it was clear that Ken knew Miyako much better than him, and being not alone felt better.
But forcing someone to stay.... that wasn't right either. Why couldn't anything just go his way?
"We need to talk sometime though, about everything," he said a moment later, after regaining some measure of composure.
Miyako fiddled with her hair, "Who do you need to talk to, Koushirou-san?
Ken or me? Because you know, now isn't a very good time for me, we can talk another day."
"You were the one that suggested now," Koushirou returned.
Ken raised his eyebrow. "Miyako. I believe it was you who called Izumi san out. I'll excuse myself so do talk things through."
"Look, some stuff came up at home, and..."
Hawkmon looked at Miyako, "What are you talking about, Miyako-san? Everything is fine at home."
Ken looked at Miyako questioningly.
Then, suddenly Ken raised both of his hands and reached for Miyako's face.
"Inoue san."
With his voice firm, Ken stared straight into Miyako's eyes.
Miyako looked down, refusing to look at Ken. He was able to read her too well.
Koushirou watched this exchange in silence. Ken.... Ken still obviously loved Miyako so much. How could she not want that?
“Miyako!”
Ken called out one more time, again his voice firm.
“Look at me.”
Miyako carefully looked up at Ken. She was shaking slightly.
"What do you want, Ken-san?"
As Miyako’s gaze now met Ken’s eyes, Ken carefully brought his hands back down.
Tenderly, he stared at the girl, who was shaking slightly. He reached and held one of her hand.
“….Miyako… Calm down. I know the situation is very tense right now, but it’s difficult for ALL of us.
Including Koushirou san. .” He reached and tenderly held another one of her hand.
“Please, be responsible, and talk things out with Koushirou san….” With this, Ken gave Miyako’s hands a squeeze.
“I know you can do it.”
"Ken.....I'm sorry....." Maybe this was all a mistake, maybe she did love Ken.
She had wanted to just collapse into his arms and ask him to hold her forever.
It did sting when he's heard the word of apology from her lips again, but ignoring the feeling, Ken politely bowed to the red head.
"I'm sorry about just now... Well then, I'll take my leave. Please take care of her."
"We will talk sometime though, right?" Koushirou asked the other boy.
Ken nodded in agreement. "Sure. Anytime."
Miyako watched the two guys who fought for her heart in different ways. She was still shaking and she wrapped her arms around herself.
Was this all a mistake? Ken cared for her so much....was she being a fool to through it away?
Koushirou bit his lip.
The thought of Ken leaving was no less appealing than it had been a few minutes ago,
but there was only so far he could go to persuade him otherwise.
"Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” With this, Ken turned around, and slightly lowered his head to Miyako to leave.
“Well then, See you both.”
The blue haired boy took his leave.
