Ken stared at the calendar.
Jan.14th…Already? Time sure flies. He noted as he put down his pancakes on the dish. Moving to the table and sitting himself down, he was pleasantly surprised to find Wormmon up and already helping himself with the food.
“Morning.” He greeted his partner munching on his breakfast, “Mewrning” Came reply from the caterpillar digimon. Smiling, he reached for his set of fork and knife, reminding Wormmon not to talk with food in his mouth.
After the breakfast, biting an apple, Ken sat down in front of the TV and flipped channels, only to find Korean dramas on. Nothing better to do, he watched a couple scenes.
The main character girl, caught her cheating boyfriend, blew up, and then only in a few moment to find herself talking to the guy crying and asking the guy if he’s ever loved her.
Ken shook his head and turned off the TV. Sadly, he found himself sympathizing too much with the protagonist, and sighed out loudly.
"Not a good thing to think about, first thing in the morning..." Shaking his head, Ken moved out to the veranda, and took in a breath of cold air. Then, suddenly the thought came, of what he was reflecting on just the night before.
Wondering how his friend is doing, he went and picked up the phone and called the Yagami resident.
Hikari stared at the math problem in front of her. It seemed like some foreign language to her. Why couldn't she have gotten the smarts in math?! Her brother had got them, unfortunately. However, he had also inherited his father's terrible penmanship...so she supposed it evened out.
The ringing of the phone alerted her senses, and she blinked rapidly, trying to regain consciousness. Her brain was fuzzy with trigonometry.
Picking up the cordless phone that was set down beside her, she nestled it between her ear and her shoulder.
Calling has been acted on sheer impulse, and the blue-haired boy considered to hanging up, being reminded of negative misunderstanding he noted recently. Then the ring stopped. So much for that. The teen braced himself for the conversation as cheerful voice came ringing across.
“Moshi moshi?”
“Uh, Hi Yagami san.” Ken started awkwardly. “I’m calling to apologize for the other day. I really wasn’t on my best behavior.”
"Right, it's Ichijouji." Ken slapped his face.
"Ken-kun?" Hikari asked, surprising, dropping her pencil and holding the phone with her hand. "It's alright! I understand!" she said brightly. "However...you're doing it again." She hoped he would catch on to what she was getting at.
“I’m sorry Hikari san.” He blushed. He let his uneasiness get to him.
“How are you doing lately?” He asked, trying to ease his nerves.
Leaning back in her chair, Hikari smiled to herself. "I've been doing good! Nothing out of the ordinary, just working on some math homework, actually." she said, staring at the menacing textbook. "I was actually thinking of going out later on today, too," she said excitedly.
“Going out? To where? Is your feet alright?” Immediately concerned, the chosen-of-kindness asked. “Are you going out alone?”
Ken shook his head as the thought of volunteering to accompany her crossed his mind. God! Too much Taichi-san channeling. He coughed. “I mean, of course, fresh air will be great. We all could use more of that.” He added dumbly.
"Well," Hikari began "I was just going to wander around to be honest. And my foot's just fine!" She paused, giggling to hearself. "However...why don't you come along with me? It can be your punishment for leaving so quickly last time! You owe me a visit!"
Ken blushed. She has read his mind. “Ah, Okay.” He replied without thinking.
Sitting up, she brightened. "Really?" she asked, excited. "That would be so great!"
Oh man. Hearing the other’s excited voice, Ken wondered what the heck he was doing. But then again, they were friends. Just friends. He was just being overly conscience. Reminding himself again, he breathed in and replied.
“I should be able to catch the bus in half an hour. I’ll see you soon after. Also, if you have any problems with your math homework, I should be able to help.”
The boy-genius smiled.
Glancing at the clock, she grinned. This was going to be fun! Spending time with Ken always was...he was so kind to everyone. "Alright! That sounds great! I'd really appreciate the help, too!"
“Well then, See you in a bit.” Finally feeling relaxed, Ken commented cheerfully. Hanging up, Ken ruffled his own hair. He felt guilty even for being awkward on the phone like that, and not being himself. “Well. You’ll have to make it up to her this afternoon. Huh?” Commenting to himself cheerfully, he stretched and headed to his room, to get ready.
About hour and a half later, Ken pressed the doorbell of Yagami resident, his hand holding nikumans he has purchased on the way. As he was greeted with a bright voice as always, he matched the cheerfulness himself and walked up, and as always, notified his friend of his presence with simple knocks.
Sitting on the couch next to her father, Hikari bounched up and down excitedly, waiting for Ken to arrive at the door. She flipped through the channels, not deciding on one thing. She couldn't concentrate--she was finally getting out of here!
He father snatched the remote out of her hands. She glared at him. He smiled back innocently.
“I can’t have to channel surfing right in the middle of the big game, Hikari,” he said as he turned on the baseball game.
Continuing to glare at her father, she only stopped once she heard knocking at the door. Jumping up (or as well as she could given her state) she grabbed her crutches and walked to the door, swinging it open. Upon seeing the famillar face, she grinned. "Ken-kun! Come on in!"
The boy walked in. “Ojamashimasu.” He added politely, greeted Hikari then handed Hikari bag of nikumans. “Here, have’em when they’re still warm.” He smiled.
Hikari gasped, surprised by the gestured. "Oh, thank you!" she said happily. This is so nice of you!" she smiled brightly. "Tou-san!" she shouted, addressing her father. "You remember Ichijouji Ken, right?"
Her father waved with one hand, not taking his eyes off the TV. “Yes, yes! Boy genius! Yes!”
Hikari chuckled nervously at her father’s greeting. “Sorry ‘bout him,” she whispered."
“It’s okay.” Ken added, taking off his shoes. “I’m surprised people still remember me by that nickname.” He chuckled.
"'Tou-san watches a lot of television," Hikari said rolling her eyes. "It's only natural he'd remember."
Ken sweat-dropped and looked at Mr.Yagami nervously for a response. Nope, his eyes were glued on the television. He moved towards the unmoving man, and coughed, to get his attention.
"Baseball game. Third inning. No talk," Mr. Yagami said.
Hikari blushed furiously at her father’s reaction. “Tou-san!”
Her father’s left eye moved to the side ever so slightly. “Yes?”
"Konnichiwa, Mr.Yagami. Ojamashimasu." Ken bowed, feeling like a great bother if anything.
Susumu Yagami blinked dumbfoundedly before breaking into a grin much like Taichi's. "Hello, Ichijouji genius boy. Make yourself at home!" he said, before turning back to the television set in front of him.
Ken held back a small laughter at the resembrance. He gave him a small nod to show his appreciation, and made his way to where Hikari was standing.
“So, ready to show me how much you’ve improved?” He nudged, eyeing the clutches.
"Yes!" Hikari exclaimed. "Are you ready?" She asked, waiting for the blue haired boy's response.
Ken brought a hand to his chin and gave a small nod.
"Alright!" She grinned excitedly and maneuvered herself around the room, blocking her father's program and making her way around the couch and back to where Ken was standing.
“Oh wow.” Impressed, Ken raised one of his hand and gave a thumbs up. “Awesome! You’ve done it! I would’ve thought they were your legs!”
"Thank you!" she said cheerfully, blushing slightly. "It took a lot of work, but I finally got it!"
“And I can see that.” Ken smiled warmly. “So, what do you say? Home work first? Or outside?” He eyed Hikari’s room.
