The feeling is common, especially if you "grow up" and move away from college (as opposed to those people who decide to start a job near where they went to school). Coming back to Boston was very different, because nearly all of my friends had moved away, so while the terrain was familiar, the social scene was brand new. I've found comfort with people I met at work and a couple other social circles. Imagine if this were college; you'd find an organization or two to find friends, but otherwise everyone you'd know would be from your job (student then, now a real job).

There's no *easy* solution. It may have taken you a couple years to feel completely comfortable at college. It won't be any different in any other new setting. Except for you, in this case, you're not a 3 hour drive from home.

Go watch "St. Elmo's Fire" -- 1985 movie about a group of friends who graduated from college and don't know what to do next.

Hey stephanie, I saw your blog through Adams, and thought I'd comment on your "life after college" issue.

As you can tell from my user name, I am a budding therapist and from personal as well as professional opinion, I can tell you that you are right when saying you are not alone! It is a very common and almost normal part of development. You are on the search for you are and what you should be in this world, and of course that can be overwhelming and sometimes frightening.

If you feel that you would benefit from counseling, I say, GO FOR IT! Having a neutral, third party to vent to and bounce ideas off of is wonderful, and a counselor, unlike a friend, is trained to help you feel your best and discover who you really are. There is a good website to find therapists in your area: http://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/

Good luck and let me know how things going. Also, if you ever want to chat, I'm around (Erica6812 on AIM)
