1. I hate Facebook.
2. Jesus was a stranger in his own city.
3. How does a Political Scientist who is in Law School avoid talking about politics on a site that has banned political speech?
4. The Correspondence Dilemma

This is going to sound harsh. I don't care. Take it how you must. Facebook is good for people who like memes, jokes, cats, and for ( Read more... )

Lovely to see you here. A couple of weeks ago, I went through my Facebook pages and got rid of almost everything political, even those that I agreed with, thanks to trolls. I did keep Randy Rainbow, of course, and I follow Chris Cuomo on Instagram, because he has the most beautiful blue eyes and occasionally says “fuck.”

It's good to see you, too! I have so much on FB, it's going to take me forever to save what I want and remove what I don't. Bleh. I will keep my presence there but only to comment, not to post, I think. Let's see how well the change-over happens.

P.S. Fuck, fuck, fuckity, fuck.

My sister’s mom deleted her Facebook a couple of years ago, which made me sad, as it was pretty much our only communication. Then she started on Instagram, and then she stopped. She said her phone was full and she didn’t know how to unload it. So, I see the good in Facebook, but I see the bad, too.

Facebook
A couple months ago I unfriended folks in my Facebook site that were repeating Trumps lies. I refuse to read such garbage in my Facebook page. All our children do not support Trump so that is a blessing. It absolutely amazes me how so many Americans believe the lies that come out of Trump's mouth and the Republican Party! It is also very scary.

Yes, it is. And it's heartbreaking to discover that people you love believe the lies and don't care what he is.

Hey Lisa. Thanks for encouraging us to come back here. I miss real connection and long posts. It seems like the pandemic and our isolation have made sited like this important again.

Love you!

I'm so happy to see you on here again. I'm also sorry some of your family has been treating you so poorly. *hughug* There's something about Trump supporters exhibiting that kind of behavior, which makes me sad and angry.

I'm glad to see you here, too!! It's not that they are actually treating me poorly, I suppose but we've definitely nothing in common except some DNA. Hell I probably have more DNA in common with a chimpanzee than my own siblings, or at least it feels that way and I wouldn't mind if I did. At least we all found out where people stood, right? Some of us are on the right side of history. They are not.

I quit FB briefly a while back, and after I went back I thought I'd have a better relationship with it, but I don't, really. It's just a place to waste time and get embroiled in whatever conversation is demanding attention, and it's exhausting. I like to keep up with my friends there but mostly people are not posting about their lives. And now Instagram has become more like FB in that I mostly see influencers I follow who have paid to be in my feed, and not my actual friends that I'm really there to follow. Ugh.

I was posting daily here for a while during the FB hiatus and I think it might be better to go back to that. Locking myself out of FB is generally a good thing. Unfortunately I also have to be on it for work once a week so any hiatus is short-lived. Sigh.

I'm sorry your siblings are being such dicks. Unfortunately Trumpism and dickishness seem to go hand in hand. Indoctrination into the Trump cult is like an empathy seek and destroy mission. Sigh.

“Unfortunately Trumpism and dickishness seem to go hand in hand. Indoctrination into the Trump cult is like an empathy seek and destroy mission.“ So. Much. This.

It seems that lack of empathy spreads more quickly now than in years past.

Lack of empathy is our second plague.

I'm finding FB to be the same, Savia. I'm happy to keep a sliver of golden thread attaching me to people at a distance or who's lives don't intersect with mine because of the space/time continuum, but it's not enough for me. And it's also too much for me. Thanks for the kind words about my siblings. It's not much of a loss if it's ALL work to make it happen. I don't see any reason at all to upend my belief system to stay in touch with them.
