The only thing I can think of his the browser and the ammount of RAM it eats -- because once *physical* memory (RAM) runs out, it goes to *virtual* memory (swap file) -- and proceeds to beat the hard drive like a Muslim wife. That and the number of available TCP/IP connections he's able to make. Both of those combined and by some fluke -- this lead him to believe that more RAM = faster internets.
Actually, it probably renders pages ten times faster? Mathematically, it may be true -- but it's hard to measure since webpages load relatively quickly in any browser. Folding@Home is reported to crunch workloads 30 times faster than a standard Intel PC. However, that's more using just the Cell processor than anything else
( ... )
You're right, I should have refered to it as cat5 rather than that, but it's not like this guy would know the difference. At first I thought that he was talking about page rendering speeds as well, in which ram would make a difference, but he thought he was actually trying to talk about CPU speeds... this guy was just about clueless. But I'll give him credit for trying. Thanks again for the info!
And just on a side note, it's looking like this break was more or less spare time for homework than anything else. I don't think I can make it down this week, but I might just have to take a day off from work some weekend and come over your way for the heck of it.
Being a jerk seems to be quite popular among customers where I work, but that's retail. XD Heh, but that's how it goes. At least it gives me things to look back on and laugh about, right?
It might work out. XD It's too bad my company doesn't care about net profits, at least that's what they preach to us when they put new console sales at the bottom of the list. I do know that our store doesn't make much off console sales. One Xbox 360 sold makes about $7 profit. But hey, that's better than what Microsoft is making on those, right? XD
And so you can have some numbers on our PS3 sales, we had seven 60 gig models shipped in at the beginning of the year, to this day we still have five.
Fans clinging to sides of the NextGen counsol war. I need a PS3 to play Sonic and Kingdom Hearts type games. I want a Wii though. I'm more familiar with Nintendo being in the counsole gaming market. I think the Wii uses wireless. a wireless connection is kinda slower than an ethernet cable to the router, but speed shouldn't be an issue if there is a good BB connection.
Yeah, wireless is a little slower than a good old wired connection. It doesn't seem to slow the Wii down any. I haven't played an online game though, and that's where it really counts, so I guess we'll see about that. I do know that it works quite well with the DS, so I'm assuming it'll work well with the Wii. I don't know about Kingdom Hearts, but I know Square Enix is starting to go multi-platform. I guess we'll see when the next one comes. As for Sonic, you can get those games on every system. The new Sonic game is also on Xbox 360 and there is an exclusive Sonic game for the Wii.

If he wanted to go on the net, he should just stick with his own PC.
To buy a system for an internet browser is a pretty pathetic reason.

But from a retail perspective, it might have been better to approach that customer in a different manner:
"The Internet runs TEN times faster on the PS3!"
"Yes, the PS3 is loaded with many, many internets. And if you buy two, it will go TWENTY times as fast."
"WOW! I'll buy them right now!"
There's your store's budget for the day.
