You're entitled to your opinion, but as you may know, small cats are not native to much of the world and wreak havoc on the songbird population.
Their life spans are also significantly shorter.

I do miss how much safer it was for outdoor kitties in the Netherlands as opposed to here.

My kitties literally freak out outside....it's like outer space to them.

They love to sit on the windowsill and chirp at the birdies and squirells but they completely wig out if let outside.

They've both only followed us out a few times and each time they do they get they immediately turn around, on hind legs, paws up on the screen door, and meow bloody murder until let back inside.

I believe declawing is torture too - I simply clip my cats claws once a week - that's all that's needed.

What a cute picture! I'm dealing with the same dilemma myself. As a child, our family always had cats that were free to roam outdoors. Now that I'm living on my own and living in an apartment, I'm wondering if it's ok for cats to stay indoors...at least while I'm at work during the day.
