ICE CREAM!

So according to this CNN Money article, European megalopoly Unilever swallowed up American icecream brand Ben & Jerry's a few years back, and states that a handful of giant companies -- including Unilever and arch-rival Nestlé, also European -- dominate the $20 billion ice cream industry in the US. I did not know that. Also interesting:

With me it depends on location too but here I like simple Chocolate, Almond Fudge, Banana Chocolate Chip and Cherry Garcia. And a good Banana Split. Anything with nuts is good. I like simple popsicles also.

Yes, exactly. Different places = different favorites. :) Cherry Garcia is great and I would love Almond Fudge too. Anything that has the almond flavor is delicious... like Amaretto, Marzipan... Okay, I'm now having major cravings for marzipane.

I love almonds and pistachios and berries are great too. Supersweet isn't my thing either - like in Godiva icecream. It's *too* sweet and *too* rich.

raspberry,
hazelnut,
mint (but not the dyed green crap!),
dulce de leche,
strawberry (also the good stuff vs. the super sweet artificial garbage),
stracciatella,
mango,
maracuja,

...and now I'm craving ice cream something serious.

LOL, I know exactly what you mean by the dyed green stuff. That's just disgusting. Anything that's an unnatural/dyed color turn me off, period. Hazelnut is such a popular European flavor, I never see anything hazelnut here in CA - but maybe that's different in cooler places in the East and Midwest? For strawberry, I really like Breyer's in the US. Haagen Dasz's is too heavy or something and I'm not usually opposed to "rich".

My favorite Ben & Jerry's flavors are Cherry Garcia and New York Super Fudge Chunk. I once had this local grocery store brand that was Irish cream flavored with fudge ribbons and chocolate cookie bits, but it was a limited edition flavor. My favorite Baskin-Robbins flavor is Jamocha Almond Fudge. I've got to do some traveling, because some of the flavors you all have listed sound very interesting.

YES, Cherry Garcia! That's definitely a stroke of genius in what it combines. I must try the almond fudge, you're the second to mention it and I love anything almond. :) Out here, the "in" crowd is all about Japanese icecream at the moment. Flavors like Green Tea, Wasabi, Cherry Blossom, Sesame Soybean and stuff like that. Ewww.

The best ice cream I ever had was Fresh Pineapple ice cream at the Dole Plantation in Hawaii.

Your post left me 'jonesing' for some ice cream...and in this heat - mmmm.

I'm off to B.R. for a frozen treat sometime today....you've inspired me to try some new flavors!

And also to research some of the more exotic flavors I've never heard of around here!

Spaghettieis??? - What's that like?

*sigh* - I'd love to travel with you - you know about all the best foods to try! ;)

Spaghettieis is popular in Germany. Icecream stores there are more like cafes. Most are run by Italian immigrants. Spaghetti is Italian so they somehow combined their Italianness and icecream and came up with Spaghettieis. :)

It looks like this

and contains really creamy vanilla icecream (always more like gelato style in Germany) pressed through this thing so it looks like spaghetti, a reduction of fresh strawberries and sugar for the sauce, and almond bits for the "parmesan" cheese part. It's extremely tasty and I had a lot of this as a kid so now it's one of those nostalgic tastes...
