Pledge of Allegiance Ruled Unconstitutional

Yep, "one nation UNDER GOD" has been struck down. Here's the radical right side, and here's the computer-geek/pagan side.

Notice how stupid our congress-slugs are: Robert Byrd seems to think that only one judge made the ruling, as he uses the singular exclusively. Trent Lott claims that if the ruling isn't overturned, Congress will overturn it. ( Read more... )

Jeffrey-
Allison here. i, for one, will be mentioning Taelinn in the pledge (but maybe Mirrer would be more appropriate.) ^_^ the whole thing is silly. i don't think the suit should have been brought, but the 9th circuit judge ruled correctly.

Actually, Congress can, theoretically, overturn it. They can pass an amendment to the constitution.

Which makes me think that the Supreme Court is going to knock this down. The political battle that would ensue, and the damage that would hit on both sides, would be just too much. Then again, they could also just refuse to hear it 'till the heat dies down. The Scalia court is just about the most conservative team of bastards to ever sit on a bench, but they don't mesh well with religion. (For example, their ruling a while back about prayers at the beginning of High School football games.)

Of course, the real tragedy is that the massive accounting scandals taking place right now are getting second billing to this rather pointless exercise in rhetoric...
