Some recent readings (and one art link) at the rate of allllmost one per fandom.

Hearth by
AlphaFlyer
[Avengers, Clint/Laura, PG-13, 6.983 words]
Summary: Power comes in many forms.
Rec Notes: Lovely Laura-centric post-Civil War (between the end and the post-credits scene) fic.

Clint Barton and the Howling Commandogs by
galwednesday
[Avengers, Gen, PG-13, 4.436 words]
Summary: All five of the dogs were in the backyard, bounding enthusiastically through an obstacle course assembled from the kind of junk that accumulated in rich people’s attics. There were platforms made of legless chairs, tents of old tablecloths to run through, and a pile of sofa cushions the dogs took great delight in plowing into. The dogs were being directed by a one-armed man with long brown hair and a serious case of resting murderface.

"You guys," Clint hissed. "That's the Winter Soldier."

"Oh, word?" America said. She looked idly at her nails.

"You knew?"

Kate rolled her eyes. "Of course we knew. How many one-armed amnesiacs do you think are running around these days? It's fine, I shot at him a little when he first turned up to make sure he wouldn't go berserk."

"He was real polite about it," America said. "Didn't return fire or anything."

Rec Notes: Aww, geez, this is great. It's all awesome and, let's face it, I could read 50k about these dogs.

[Hannibal, Will/Hannibal, PG-13, 2.869 words]
Summary: There was something else in the photo.
Rec Notes: Inventive and surreal in a way that's eminently suitable to Hannibal.

All These Bruises on My Wings (Sing to the End series) by
Poemsingreenink
[Magnificent 7, Gen with Emma/OMC and Billy/Goody background, PG/PG-13, 2.915 words]
Summary: Just because you fought for something doesn’t mean you get to keep it.
Rec Notes: I don't know if anyone over here is reading Mag 7 fic - besides
spindilly, but she's feeding me the links half the time via Twitter - but if you are this is a very good post-canon Emma POV to check out. In the aftermath of Rose Creek, Emma Cullen stays for a while but eventually ends up packing her bags and hitting the road. She runs into a couple of familiar faces there. The fist fic is 2,915 words, the series has 10,799 words all together in 3 parts.

Kore by
oneiriad
[Mythology (Greek & Roman), Persephone/Hades, R, 5.673 words]
Summary: The day her mother gives birth to a horse is the day Persephone decides that she really needs a plan.
Rec Notes: A sweet and humorous story featuring asexual!Persephone.

Make My Wish Come True by
lady_ragnell
[OMG Check Please!, Jack/Bitty, PG, 7.325 words]
Summary: Jack's parents really don't want him to be alone for Christmas, but accidentally making up a boyfriend to make them feel better was probably the wrong thing to do.
Rec Notes: My series of reactions was as followsAbout halfway through: HOLY GOD, JACK, THIS IS A TRAIN WRECK IN SLOW MOTION.
Slightly later: OH GOD, THE TRAIN WRECK IS HAPPENING FASTER NOW. (lol Johnson)
After the train wreck: Whew, that wasn't as terrible as it could have been.
At the end: *cooing*

you're like a drug to me, a luxury, my sugar and gold (and you don't even know) by
mooosicaldreamz
[Power Rangers, Kimberly/Trini, PG-13, 4.487 words]
Summary: It isn’t hard to notice Kimberly Hart. Trini isn’t really into labels, but she sure as hell knows that she’s at least a little bit something when she sees the girl flounce in. Biology is boring, and Kimberly Hart’s legs are long and her jeans leave so little to the imagination.

This whole…disaster of an attraction is easy enough to ignore. Trini can pretend that she does not stare at the girl’s legs. She can pretend, even, that she hasn’t seen Kimberly strip and dive into a pool of water up on the mountain. It’s easy; Kimberly doesn’t know who the hell she is, and Trini isn’t interested in explaining, either.

Of course, then Billy Cranston blows up a fucking mountain.

Rec Notes: SO great. I've only seen the movie preview and it's been years since I watched the (American) series, but I didn't feel lost and this was a really fun read.

all at sea by
Sixthlight
[Rivers of London, Gen, PG, 1.417 words]
Summary: Captain Nightingale wants the dinner he missed, Dr Brook wants to throw a geochemist overboard on behalf of her ROV team, and Dr Grant might be regretting this whole chief scientist thing. (Not really.)
Rec Notes: Delightful! Totally AU, no series spoilers - if you know who Peter, Nightingale, and Beverly are, you're set. A few other characters are mentioned, but that's it. You could read it as original fic and still be set, tbh.

[Kaz Brekker] by
Cocotingo
[Six of Crows, Gen, PG, 1 still image]
Artist's Notes: I fell in love with a thief called Kaz Brekker. So here’s my first fanart for Six of Crows!
Rec Notes: I love, love, love this artist's SoC character portraits, especially Inej and Kaz. The text claims the characters are in their mid to late teens, I would argue as written they're 3-5 years older at least, and this art is a good 5-10 years beyond that - which is DELIGHTFUL. This is Kaz with his signature cane, his face rendered sharp and beautiful with the traces of old scars. He looks mischievous in a hard and dangerous way; a little too much cleverness for his own good sometimes, the kind that's a saving grace when surviving means beating all the odds stacked against you, with just enough mercy for the Barrel - which is to say not much mercy at all.

We've Got a Mystery to Solve by
Skoosiepants
[Teen Wolf, Stiles/Derek, PG-13, 8,774 words]
Summary: Officially, Scott and Stiles started off as supernatural debunkers. Shithead eighteen year olds with a couple gopros, a book of magic lore they’d ‘borrowed’ from Scott’s veterinarian ex-boss, and a YouTube channel. They guilted Scott’s dad into buying them a used van, downloaded a map of haunted places, and set off across the country for a gap year that stretched well past what their parents think is acceptable.

And then Scott got bit by a werewolf off highway 95, they accidentally set Kira free from an Arizona desert prison, and Lydia Martin, Stiles’ high intensity high school crush, called him up out of nowhere at 3 am one random Tuesday and nearly blew out his eardrums with a banshee scream and a death omen.

or-

The gang drives a van around the country hunting monsters, and Stiles may or may not have a weird crush on a traumatized Derek Hale.

Rec Notes: This leaves the AU set-up to the summary and dives right in which lets you get to the meat of things in that word count. Relatedly, Skoosiepants also posted Everyday Magic, which is Teen Wolf AU - also Stiles/Derek, 6,379 words - with a Harry Potter influence. It's a sweet story with some great alternative world building around the edges.

The Garden Of by
what_alchemy
[X-Men, Gen, PG, 130 words]
Summary: Someone is waiting across the border.
Rec Notes: [Spoilers for Logan] Good - and painful in its implications.

in post-soviet russia, mario kart owns u by
lazulisong
[Yuri on Ice, Yuuri/Victor, PG, 1.751 words]
Summary: Little Yuri gave Yuri exactly one day to settle into Victor's apartment in St Petersburg before appearing with a scowl, a bag of piroshki, and a demand for a Mario Kart rematch.
Rec Notes: <3! Sweet and funny with a great Yuuri POV and just generally perfect.
