One shot fired.

...last I know, I was getting off a train going south from D.C.

Now I ain't no world traveller but I know this place ain't on that route.

Someone wanna tell me where I am and when all them lights and noises gonna stop?

I don't like it when I can't tell if someone about to walk up behind me and shoot me. You wouldn't either if you was me.

Hn. Welcome to the Twilight Zone. You've been cosmically kidnapped or some bullshit.

The main detail is you're stuck here, just like everyone else.

Nah, I ain't much for being stuck places. Except Baltimore. But that ain't being stuck, that's choosing to stay.

So, what, no one know any way out?

...course, this place ain't on no map of mine neither.

No, I don't suspect it is.

I lived outside of D.C. for a number of years. I suspect it remains the same.

Yo, I from B-more; D.C. ain't my place. I was only--

The lights and noises don't really stop. You just kind of get used to them.

[squints into the glare of an exploding firework]

How does anyone ever concentrate in this whole blessed city?

Or know when someone trying to kill them?

Well it's not like this all the time. I mean, the fireworks only come around every once and a while. It's the ticking that gets you.

And people always know when they're trying to kill someone else. Everyone around here likes to brag about it.

What is that, yo?

I wish I could say Liberty Avenue.

...don't know that one neither. Get the feeling it don't matter, though, do it?

Pittsburgh, calling. It mattered once upon a time.

Never been there.

Starting to think my streets don't matter here neither.

That sounds like America. The sun should come up tomorrow, and take some of the chaos with it, but not much.

Here. Whether or not you choose to believe it is your right, but time will prove it.

...so I'm in another world, and I ain't even still in America?

All right. I'll read it.

A nexus of all the worlds, to be more precise.

It can be overwhelming, but there's no use softening the blow.
