Oh, don't talk to me about editing. As promised, I am *still* doing it!

Thanks for your comments. And yes, I'm the kind of dork who likes to dissect characters into oblivion. I know, I'm weird. XD Hope you're feeling better!

Haha. Editing for the win!

You're just the kind of 'weirdo' I like. Since I lack the concentration and observation skills to dissect characters myself the next best thing is reading the thoughts of people who do. It's one of my favorite past times.

Thanks, I am! :) Was feeling like I was backsliding today but I think if I just stay in bed tomorrow and keep drinking liquids I should be fine.

*big grin and Reid wave*

You should have seen the dissertations I did for Charlie on Lost.

I have a feeling it might be MGG's deliberate (and I'd say very nuanced) portrayal of ASD characteristics, without explicit direction/cue from the writers/director. That would go some way to explaining why these signs appear but are never addressed as possible ASD.

Agreed. MGG is awesome. I do want to point out though, that one does have to keep in mind two things about his performance ( ... )

One of the only social settings I've seen Reid in is in "Big Game" when he is playing the (I'm presuming it's Star Trek) drinking game. He seemed pretty at ease there. What do you think about that?
There is also the chess kid in "Uncanny Valley", but that was a kid, not an adult so maybe it was easier to relate? idk. Again, your opinion?

Hi there! Thanks for the explanation. I kind of had an idea of what Asperger's implied but your explanation explains it so well and with non so specialized vocabulary!. I had some questions though: I still don't get the social cues thing. Can you explain it with other people? Another thing, how's Aspergers diagnosed? I'm asking because I've searched for it on the internet and I've found some adults who were diagnosed later in life. And how do you distinguish between Aspie's and people who just are socially inept (akward etc etc etc?).I mean, sometimes (the majority of the time) I don't get what other people think is funny and I don't enjoy participating in groups but I don't have (I mean, I don't think I have) Asperger's.
And thanks for the FFic's list!
(I apologize if something doesn't make any sense but English isn't my fisrt language so... well, you know)

Hi! Social cues are when you can't read a room and/or situation naturally. Like, I can't tell you exactly *how* I know my class is getting bored with my lesson, but I can feel it. Reid OTOH would need to watch each individual and see how they're slowing down breathing, relaxing their heads, etc etc. Incredibly difficult to do if you're also talking about something you're passionate about, since THAT is where your attention is. It's a bit like multitasking. Most people do it normally, but people with ASD struggle at it ( ... )

I'll list the criteria for Diagnostic Criteria for 299.80 Asperger's Disorder. I'm nowhere near an expert (you can tell this because I don't know where say, his concrete/math thinking, hypersensitivity, or missed social cues goes, but I'm SURE they go somewhere on these lists), but I'll put my comments. I'm pretty sure a professional would find better (and more accurate) examples than me.

(I) Qualitative impairment in social interaction, as manifested by at least two of the following:

(A) marked impairments in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors such as eye-to-eye gaze, facial expression, body posture, and gestures to regulate social interaction

- This is the lack of eye contact, tone, exaggerated reactions (esp the exaggerated reactions!), etc.

(B) failure to develop peer relationships appropriate to developmental level- Duh. This simply says the person doesn't have the appropriate level, it does not address the why. That's a later criteria ( ... )

Here's the Diagnostic Criteria for 299.00 Autistic Disorder:

(I) A total of six (or more) items from (A), (B), and (C), with at least two from (A), and one each from (B) and (C)

(A) qualitative impairment in social interaction, as manifested by at least two of the following:

1. marked impairments in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors such as eye-to-eye gaze, facial expression, body posture, and gestures to regulate social interaction

2. failure to develop peer relationships appropriate to developmental level

3. a lack of spontaneous seeking to share enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people, (e.g., by a lack of showing, bringing, or pointing out objects of interest to other people)

4. lack of social or emotional reciprocity ( note: in the description, it gives the following as examples: not actively participating in simple social play or games, preferring solitary activities, or involving others in activities only as tools or "mechanical" aids )
- This is the exact same as 299.80 Asperger's Disorder I posted ( ... )

Yeah! It's episode 520 "...A Thousand Words" - the one where the guy kills himself and they have to profile all his tattoos. Two other "deep focus" scenes I can remember are my favs from "Masterpiece" (where Reid realizes the Fibonacci Sequence) and "Fisher King" (figuring out the book). I always find it hilarious it's always Hotch who notices first. Like in "Sense Memory" when Reid nearly knocks into him when realizing what the square patches mean. "What is it, Reid?" :D

In case you can't tell, I heart Reid. <3 Thanks for the comment!
