I am thrilled that Obama/Biden won. Devestated about Proposition 8 though. I think it is amazingly cruel to tear rights away from people when they've only just got them and they have been so positive. I cannot understand how people who voted in Obama voted for Proposition 8.

It wasn't just Prop 8 that passed - though that was probably the most publicized. There were four props that passed. Arizona had a gay marriage ban, Arkansas had a prop that would make it impossible for gay couples to become foster parents or adopt and Florida had an amendment that was passed that I can't remember. The Arkansas is horrendus. *shrug* But eh, change comes in small steps, perhaps.

I was talking to someone in the States and she said she wasn't surprised that it had happened but what buoyed her was that 45 years ago, interracial marriage was a crime in 16 states and now Obama's president-elect. So change comes. This is no different, I suppose. Change will happen and it's just a matter of waiting and rallying and campaigning to bring it 'round. It's the same here. Change has to happen and all we can do is hope it comes sooner than later - and get off our butts and do something, I suppose.

Yeah, I know about those other ones- that is what my facebook name was about. Florida banning common law marriage is the one you were thinking of. That one is bad news for straight people also.
