my guess is that it's a silly shorthand for talking about Walter Benjamin's theory on the dual nature of happiness-- the hymnal and the elegaic-- that which we return to again and again, and that, once experienced (the height of joy), van never be felt again. he talks about it in the essay "The Image of Proust."
