Summary: Special Agent Lisette Antonelli is called to an all too familiar crime scene.
The Die is Cast
Special Agent Lisette Antonelli had been to some grim crime scenes before. Seen her fair share of bloodied crime scene photographs.
"How can you do the job you do?"
It was an innocent, yet, very loaded question. Lisette would shrug, offer the person a small smile, and say, "You get used to it."
The thing was, you never really do.
Lisette calls it acclimatization. A person adapts. They learn to shut out certain things, they distance themselves, they do anything possible, because to allow themselves to succumb to anything may destroy them.
So, as she crosses the threshold of the house, and is led by the police detectives to the bedroom, she remains focused.
Calm. Collected.
"Agent Antonelli, glad you could make it," the medical examiner says.
"What have we got?"
"I'll show you."
Lisette follows the medical examiner - a short, bespectacled Asian woman - to the master bathroom.
She stares at the mirror. Written in blood is the phrase: They are the Glorious Ones.
"Son of a bitch," Lisette breathes, "he's back."
