Air America is filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. This was somewhat surprising to me. On the whole, I have to say I am happy with this. While I enjoy the thought of a voice out there, fighting against the conservative trend...not like that. To use an abused reference, it is like using the Ring to defeat Sauron. Yeah...I didn't like the style of the discussion that much. They make it seem like nowadays, for a modern person's ears, the Rite of Spring is just this pleasant little piece of classical music. But it's still crazy music. When I was a child I was lying in bed with the Rite of Spring in my head and it frightened me to death. They are totally right, though, if you imagine an audience that is used to Wagner, at best, those were not brains prepared for the Rite of Spring...due to the fact that the ballet-goers most likely didn't work in factories with a great deal of rhythmic noise, they woulod simply have had trouble comping with all that rhythm!

You know, Beethoven's symphonies were often called outrageous and crazy at the time. But he never went across any real boundaries like Stravinsky did.
