This...this can't be real. Can it?

Every day, I seem to find an article with information that brings to mind the scene in The Pianist where the family is reading about the Jewish symbols that must be put onto their clothes, and their expressions of "this can't be serious, can it?"

I would be surprised if that went through. I would think big business would squash that fast since that's an even a bigger loss against tourism, etc, than the fingerprinting that all foreigners have to do now. Already, WA state is figting against proposed barriers to make it more difficult to move in between Canada and the US, mostly due to economic reasons.

At the end, they should add China to their list of countries that make it difficult to leave.

I don't understand...isn't a passport and fingerprints enough control over who enters and who leaves? Why would they want to take that massive administrative effort to have a clearance procedure for each person? Is it really worth it? If someone is a criminal or a suspect on some list, they will be captured at a border anyway! I really don't understand.

Oh, add to the list: until 1989: Czech Republic, Slovakia, German Democratic Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Hungary ...*everything east of Austria*, and for now add to the list North Korea and all those countries that we don't know enough about.
