Went to see Sanctum at the IMAX tonight, of course it was in 3D. I don't think they can make a movie these days without it. Also, the 3D glasses near enough swallowed my face. Those things were big let me tell you. Not sure if that is normal for Imax as it was my first time. *g*
Anyhoo, the film was okay, nothing mind blowing, but good enough to keep you entertained for a couple of hours.
Basically, a bunch of folks go down a cave which has never been explored by humans ever, a cyclone traps them underground (yes really) so they have to find another way to the surface by navigating deep dark uncharted caverns. HOW will they survive?! Um. Well, their numbers do dwindle, and sometimes it ain't pretty. There is panic, claustrophobic moments, father and son bonding so we get that they don't hate each other after all... yeah.
Okay I did like it, but half way through I just wanted to watch Due South in that 'find a happy place' way, you know? I think I enjoyed the visuals more than what was happening to the characters. The scenery was stunning, and the underwater scenes were quite relaxing on occasion. Just like watching tropical fish in a tank...well, if they were wearing diving gear, lol. That is until the next dilemma occurred for the group and I was back to DON'T PICK THAT TUNNEL YOU MORON. *sigh*
It is not the worst thing I have ever seen, but I'll skip getting the dvd.
Trailers: Drive Angry (Nicolas Cage in a car movie? How surprising! :P), Battle: Los Angeles, Thor (\o/), Priest (I am confused by this, there appears to be hunting for vampires? Karl Urban and Paul Bettany are in it. Can't be all bad.), I Am Number Four (bad), Paul (meh), and Pirates 4. (Johnny Depp in 3D is SPLENDID, fyi. ;) Can't wait for that one!)
