Thanksgiving?

Oops. Not only did I forget it was Thanksgiving yesterday, I forgot to wish husbo T a happy one. Last year we talked of having a feast this year and inviting people over, but it was bound not to happen. T's been in a superfunk of a mood for the past however-long - luckily he's getting much better really fast, thanks to starting anti-Ds - and ( Read more... )

I deleted because I was thinking that perhaps it was Aussie Thanksgiving. The Canadian Thanksgiving was last month... USA Thanksgiving is next Thursday. :)

Nah, we don't have a Thanksgiving. We weren't even pretend-appreciative of our Aboriginal brethren and sistren. We just murdered most of them. :(

(These days we have a Sorry Day, but it's a groundswell movement that is only semi-official governmentally, I suppose. Not the same thing anyway.)

I thought Thanksgiving was the third Thursday in November. I keep forgetting to ask Todd.

Oh, it is? Kinda shot myself in the foot on that one. But no. It requires more liquid funds than we can spare in this difficult November month (what on earth would a whole turkey cost if we could even order one from a butcher this far before Christmas?), and I need to get recipes from his Mom to do it right, and we need to invite people earlier 'cos they're all booked up this time of year.... Excuses, I has them.

Next year!

"(what on earth would a whole turkey cost if we could even order one from a butcher this far before Christmas?)"

should be glad if you can't. it doesn't taste very good. well. to be more precise, meat from a domesticated american turkey is so bland that it doesn't taste particularly good or bad. makes chicken taste like an exotic delicacy in comparison. wild turkey might taste better. i imagine it probably does. domesticated turkey though is very flavorless.

Maybe industrialised turkey farming has bred the taste right out of them. Turkey here - the kind you'd order from a butcher - is scrumptilicious. Tasty, tender turkey... We have probably already touched on the fascinating fact that turkey is not ubiquitous in supermarkets here. If you buy sliced chicken for sandwiches, it's chicken. Ham is ham. Turkey is more expensive and never as well-stocked. (It's even hard to find nice cranberry sauce, especially since Ocean Spray sprayed its way over here. Bah.) And I don't think we can even get tofurkey... Unless we can ( ... )
