Practice Makes Perfect

Okay, here be the epic cut of epic-ness.

Short Prompts for short stories:

-Gellert decides to teach Arania how to ride a horse (it's better than a broom, Albus. Calm down) in the hopes that it will help her feel more free, and lighten Albus up a bit.

-Gellert hears screams from the Dumbledore household and runs in to rescue the damsel in
distress.  Arania's magic has gotten good
and out of control, and the first meeting of Albus and Gellert is not as
smooth, or as bloodless, as one would hope.

-Instead of starting a physical wizards duel, Gellert calmly explains to Aberforth why
it is he is staying with Albus, and why is he putting up with Aberforth,  in angry, frustrated words.

-Gellert arrives at Hogwarts to celebrate his and Albus 100th wedding anniversary… but

what is this? The Headmaster has forgotten? Oh, hell no!

-As Gellert fights to end the muggle war overseas in his home country, Albus
worries about his husband, and preys for his return. (a good old fashioned
Gellert kills Hitler story.)

-Gellert promised Arania a princess bed, and the little princess always gets what she
wants.  While making the little bed,
Gellert ponders all the lengths that he was willing to go to for Albus
Dumbledore and their little family, everything that he is willing to give up,
and everything that he can now achieve.
(Like putting a princess bed together the muggle way because Aberforth
said he couldn't!).

-In their youth, Dumbledore told Grindelwald that, while he loved the idea of
Valentines day, no one would ever send the overly-independent, weird genius
flowers or candies or anything of the sort, because really, who could love him?
As they get older, despite everything, Grindelwald sends Albus something, every
year, for the rest of their lives.

Possible Chapter-length prompts (can be made shorter by author)

Young and Hopeless stories:
  1. Academics Outdoors

Albus is invited to academic conference in Moscow for young, talented wizards. Prior
to going, Albus hears about muggles in the Northern Mountains of Russia that
have studied the human mind and the effects of plants on it to such an extent
that they have been able to cure some types of dieses. Believing the answer to
Arania's difficulties must be in the hands of the muggle world, Albus 'ditches'
the party, and begins to search for these legendary healers.  Grindewald sees Dumbledore leaving the big event, and is angered that the Hogwarts Headboy would dare leave such an party, so he follows him. What follows is a two week long camping trip full of angry
Muggle men, wolves (Think Beauty and the Beast Rescue scene), allergic
reactions to Albus cooking and painful confessions around a campfire from both
Albus and Gellert.

  1. Made to Order

To pay the day to day bills, Albus Dumbledore works as a bar tender at the small
pub in Godrics Hollow with three other witches.  The pub is ancient, and is rumored to be where the first Peverell brother was killed…and possibly where the founders of Hogwarts met.  Gellert begins spending much of his time there to avoid Bathilda, because that woman is crazy.   Albus's co workers notice the blondes eyes glued to the red head genius, and an evil match-making plot is born…

  1. History in the Making
Bathilda decides to host a history lecture in Paris because she is tired of the
ignorance that seems to be running rampant in the magical youth. Gellert, in
the hopes of avoiding his parents, jumps at the chance to attend. Bathilda
drags Albus along for the ride (Much to Aberforth's pleasure). The two boys
spend  two weeks in Paris sight seeing and listening to Bathilda lecture…. All the while, Bathilda realizes that those two are made for each, and she arranges for Gellert to come stay with her the next summer.

  1. Justified

So…Gellert being expelled for violently attacking a fellow student? What's that
about? The year before, at the Triwizard Tournament (hosted by Drumstrang) that
same student was accused of luring the Hogwarts Headboy to the astronomy tower
and attempting to assault him. He must have realized that Albus has never had a
girl friend before and decide to teach the strange boy a thing or two. Gellert,
also realizing that Albus "Prefers the gentlemans company to that of a
fair lady's", goes to rescue him, and visits Albus in the hospital wing as
he recovers… He even goes so far as to read Albus his favorite bedtime story…

  1. You Again

A group of 17 year old wizards decide to have fun in the town of Godrics Hollow,
and they reawaken the memories of their past lives by accident.  Albus Dumbledore was laying flowers on his mothers grave, and Gellert Grindelwald was searching for the headstone of Ignatious Peverell, so they were also hit with the blast. Alania (Albus) and Cadmus(Gellert) were lovers in a past life, a rather famous, death defying couple (the second brother and his lost love) and since Albus and Gellert cannot remove their past lives or silence them again, the old spirits reawaken in each other throughout the years, and force the two to reunite, despite the wants and efforts of the dictator and the professor.
  1. Mine

Dodge is at a complete loss. Albus current 'suitor' is a complete and utter moron,
loud, arrogant and worst of all- Albus has several unexplained bruises that
Dodge noticed the other night at his birthday party, bruises that Dodge is
certain came from Albus man. With no other options (Dodge admits to being a
little clueless when it comes to things like this) He travels to Ms. Bagshots) home,
and begs for help.  Not knowing under what circumstances Grindelwald left, Bathilda contacts her nephew to talk some sense into Albus, and help him out of this emotionally abusive relationship. Gellert, understandably, is displeased.
  1. Warmth

Gellert notices that Albus is always cold, he simply does not have enough meat on his
bones to keep himself warm in those drafty libraries. To remedy this, Gellert buys Albus a scarf…. A few weeks later, a nice sweater, fingerless gloves (for the really chilly dungeon at Hogwarts), a fur lined overcoat (think Drumstrang student coat).  A fuzzy hat that buzzes when Albus has a really good idea… these gifts do not stop, even after the Arania incident…. Gellert sends Dumbledore clothes and blankets up until the day one of them dies.

Note: Gellert takes up sewing in prison, how can you not love that idea
  1. Soulless

Gellert agrees to stay with Albus in Godrics Hollow for sometime, allowing for Araina to grow
up… Three years he stays with the Dumbledore family, and he becomes quite the respectable
young man  in the community.  Unfortunately, the muggle religious leader in Godrics Hollow
has come to realize the nature of his relationship with Albus, and the priest, in his madness,
stabs Albus in order to help him repent from his sins.  Gellert freezes Albus, preventing him f
from dying… Then Gellert seeks out a trade with the demons of the world, and Albus is
revived, only to awaken to a world where Gellert is not who he used to be, and  he doesn't
remember loving the red head at all…
  1. Once More, with Feeling

In the year 2023, five very different supporters of Grindelwald (Including the
daughter of his dead general-Amelia, a Drumstrang head boy and a pure blooded
idiot who has no brains but all the right connections)  have decided to resurrect their former
leader/idol, by digging up his bones and evoking the darkest of magics, trying
to recreate Voldemorts spell.

Unfortunately for them, 18 year old Gellert Gregoravich (Grindelwalds reincarnation) is so not okay with this, and the wand makers apprentice starts trying to dissuade the 'Grindelwald supporters'.   In the meantime, the German aurrors have called for back up against the strange happenings (A dark arts library, the Grindelwald Museum and the Numerguard graveyard have all been broken in to) and Harry Potter is suddenly in a foreign country in which he doesn't speak the language.  Not exactly trusting his translator(he had the dark mark, for christ sake) Harry drags his genius (and German speaking) son, Albus Severus to Germany with him…. Albus doesn't remember his past life as Gellerts lover, but he does feel drawn to the young wand making apprentice as his fathers investigation takes them to the
Gregorvich ancestral home.  Gellert, on the other hand, remembers every sordid detail of his love affair with Albus, and how much he regretted leaving his one and only beloved.
  1. Love Potion Number Nine

Marguerite Hannell is the most eligible witch in all of Godrics Hollow…too bad she is a
royal pain in the cauldrons' crack.   No one in Godrics Hollow will court her, and she is almost nineteen years old, the scandal! She decides to give a love potion to the new heart throb in town, Mrs. Bagshots gorgeous nephew. Hopefully, this will make all of the other boys in
town jealous, and finally they will all see what they have been missing… But
what's this? She brewed the potion wrong? Now Grindelwald cannot take his eyes off of that seamstresses-now orphan boy.  Not even the roguishly handsome trouble-making Dumbledore boy, but the skinny nerd one with glasses.  In fact, the book freak that Marguerite has tormented for seven years is suddenly most  sought after by the blonde Adonis… that potion was supposed to wear off in a week! Why is Grindelwald still
looking at Dumbledore like that?!

  1. Blood

Gellert is a half Vampire who's urge to mate is driving him crazy. As his complete
magical maturity comes closer, his body begins looking for the perfect mate to
spend eternity with.   Albus, who is a quarter werewolf, lets off the most heavenly scent that Gellert has even had the pleasure of catching… Human blood and supernatural strength and
unbelievable brilliance…  All things Gellert needs in a mate.  This is a pointless smut story. Seriously, this is nothing but an excuse to write dirty, nerdy, rough lemon and lime for
chapters on end, Grindeldore style.  But it needs to exist, seriously.
  1. Political Endeavors

Gellert and Albus live in Vienna, Austria.  Albus has convinced Gellert to leave Muggles alone for the time being, and to instead focus his attention on werewolves, Vampires, giants… all of the magical breeds who are being discriminated against, bringing all the magical peoples of the
world together.  Gellert is a rising political star in his home country, and Albus conveys the much softer side of their movement (Gellert is almost militant in his endeavors, Albus donates time and effort into charities and speaks about peace between all magical races).  Gellert is hard tempered, but the public tolerate him for the sweet, mild mannered red head who can charm even the most hardened politician.  When the position of Undersecretary to the Head of the International Magical Committee becomes available, Gellert is nominated to take the post, with sweet, smiling Albus by his side, Gellert is confident that he will win.  Gellerts opposition also realizes this fact, and decides to kill the red-head, and pin the murder on Gellert.  Multiple attempts on Albus life are not exactly acceptable  in  Gellerts opinion, and the first great wizarding war is about to begin.
  1. Prisoners

Gellert Grindelwald is the young, but ambitious aid to a magical law firm who handles
mostly muggle-on-wizard cases all over Europe.  A human prison guard in Azkaban over heard an English man confessing that the only reason he attacked three muggle boys was because of the crimes they first committed against his daughter. If the allegation is true, then the
man can possible be pardoned.  Gellert is recruited to conduct the investigations (since no one likes going to England in the winter months) and he is introduced to the prisoners quiet, yet
staggeringly brilliant son, and the very damaged sixteen year old girl that he
is caring for… Arania's fits have cased scaring on Albus arms, and Aberforth,
feeling useless in the household (without Gellert, Albus is absolutely wonderful at the care taking  role) has taken off and Albus has not heard from him in months. Gellert decides it's time to reunite the family… Perhaps the entire family, if possible…. And possibly speak with Albus a bit more intimately after the investigation is done.

Note: In this scenario, I always imagined Albus having no sense of self worth what so
ever, but some self confidence. He is brilliant, and he knows this, but his
mother and a distant aunt (who does not want the responsibility of Arania) have
both drilled it into Albus head that he must take care of his siblings, that is
the only thing that matters…. It basically crushed any dreams or ambitions
Albus ever had, and made him consider himself worthless in comparison to his
damaged siblings. This fic highlights one of the few redeeming qualities of
Gellert Grindelwald had cannon-wise- he made Albus realize he had power, and
control over his own destiny.)
  1. Instigator

Voldemort is cast from his body in 1990… and he wakes up in 1895, relatively unharmed,
except for the fact that Gellert Grindelwald, with whom he had rivaled with the
title of Dark lord for the past twenty years, is also in Godric's Hollow.   There, he meets seventeen year old Gellert Grindelwald, and his lover, Albus.  To say that Voldemort is stunned is an understatement.
  1. In-Laws

Gellert proposes to Albus, who enthusiastically says yes…. The only snag is that Albus
insists on meeting Gellert's family… who would not be okay with the wedding.
Gellerts domineering mother, twisted, sadistic brother and third cousin (who
Gellert was originally betrothed to) all plot to destroy the cheery Professor,
and get Gellert back on the 'right track' to pure blood success.
  1. Somehow, this is all the chickens fault

Gellert is directed by his aunt to go to the Dumbledore house and retrieve a cup of
sugar (This would be Aunt Bathilida subtly telling Gellert he needed to get more friends).  Unfortunately, Araina's chicken has gotten loose in the house, Aberforths Goat is wearing one of their mothers best dresses and Albus has just managed to get out of bed… A slap-stick comedy featuring sarcastic Albus, hung over Aberforth and finger painting Araina…. And the very confused German boy on their door step.
  1. Heirloom

(Not exactly a Grindeldore fic, but a fun concept that keeps bubbling in my head…)In
an ancient painting in the Godrics Hollow Library, the wife of Ignatius Peverell is wearing a sapphire necklace in the shape of the Death Hallows symbol.   Gellert decides that the
Sapphire necklace reminds him too much of Albus eyes to be coincidence, and a
year after he flees Godrics Hollow, he sends Albus the rediscovered necklace,
soaked in protection charms so much so that even Albus cannot name them
all.  Albus refuses to wear the necklace  at first, but slowly he accepts that while Grindelwald may have been cruel, the necklace was given out of love. It is out of affection for little Harry Potter that Dumbledore 'loans' the Peverell crest to the Potter family, especially since James is lending Dumbledore his invisibility cloak. Lily hangs the necklace from her sons
mobile, because Harry loves the blue lights it casts the walls.  Neither Lilly or Dumbledore realize just how many protection charms that Grindewald placed on the necklace, or how strong those protection charms were, until a house falls on Harry's crib, and the
infant is miraculously found alive…..
Note: I see Harry 'owning' this necklace  all the way up until the end of his sixth year, when,
after the death of Albus Dumbledore, Harry returns the necklace to a distraught Grindelwald.

Older and Wiser stories

  1. Wizards Anonymous

Chancellor Grindelwald has a drinking problem. Actually, he's pretty much figured the
whole drinking thing out, so it would be more appropriate to say that Grindelwald has a quitting problem.  Most people believe that Grindelwald cannot silence his own genius long enough to have a moments peace, and so there is no real cure for him. It will take the
most renowned wizarding mental health healer, Albus Dumbledore, to help the
chancellor through his court ordered "WA".
  1. Magical Child Protective Services

Albus Dumbledore is the head of England's Wizarding Child Protective Services, and
his experience with Arania has made him perhaps a little over protective of wizarding children in muggle homes.  Gellert Grindelwald, former chancellor of Germany, and current
ambassador to England, has requested to meet the head of the Department of Magical Child Protection, because he feels that Germany's MCPS is sorely lacking in that area…. A few dinners and drinks and a few discussions about wizarding politics later, Gellert Grindelwald is in love, and Albus Dumbledore is questioning his monk-life behavior for the last few years. Elphais, Aberforth and grown! Arania are all pro-Grindeldore in this one.  Because really, Albus needs to get laid.
  1. Negotiations

1940-Chancellor Grindelwald has announced that he does not want a 'wizarding world war'  like the muggles are currently fighting in, and he wishes to negotiate a peace treaty with the other wizarding nations, but since most nations are all ready cowering in fear of Germany, England decides that now is not the time to mess around.  Dumbledore is sent to make the other nations see reason, and Grindelwald is taken aback by the 'most brilliant school teacher'  England has to offer.
  1. Birds of a Feather

Gellert Grindelwald, the headmaster of Drumstrang, finds himself inheriting a female
phoenix who, quite frankly, needs to breed.  Gellert discovers that a self-proclaimed academic hermit, Albus Dumbledore,  has a male phoenix who is not yet mated. Both Albus and Fawks are dealing with the loss of Albus family to Arania's fits, and the German professor finds himself becoming oddly protective of the quiet, unassuming man and his pet. Especially after rumors begin to rise that Albus Dumbledore had been the one to kill his brother and
sister,
  1. Home Planet of Hogwarts (star wars verse)

Albus Dumbledore is a Jedi scholar during the clone wars. He and his emotionally scared apprentice, Harry, had been lucky enough to not be in the Jedi temple the night Order 66 killed most of their kind.  Now they are relaying on the aid of an old smuggler, Gellert Grindelwald, to help them find Master Lupin and Master Tonks, and their two apprentices (Hermione and Neville).  Grindelwald's crew ranges from the snarky co-captain named Snape,  and a few (A lot of) young red headed children looking for their parents, who were evacuated during the clone wars. Dumbledore with a lightsaber? I think so.Grindelwald with a blaster? Hell yes!
  1. The Stuff of Nightmares
In an alternate reality, Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald are currently Q  raising their
surrogate grandchild, seven year old Harry Potter.  Harry's parents were killed in a freak
accident which has yet to be explained, and Gellert, as former head of the Investigative Aurrors team, is determined to find out what happened to the sweet couple who lived across the way from him.  Meanwhile, Albus notices strange things happening in his home, all of
which include a red eyed specter who seems intent on harming/killing little
Harry.
  1. Match-Making Champions

In his fourth year at Hogwarts during the Triwizard tournament, Harry meets and
befriends the headmaster of Drumstrang, Gellert Grindelwald. Headmaster
Grindelwald is very fond of Dumbledore, as it was Dumbledore (with a little
help from Grindelwald) who took down the entire group of wizards  who were imperio-ing Hitler and his men.  As Harry is thrust into the Triwizard Tournament, he begins seeking out more and more time with the two most brilliant men in the world, and at the Christmas ball, Harry comes to a startling realization… Those two belong together!
  1. My Big, Fat, Shame of a wedding

There is no excuse for Albus Dumbledore to swoop in and save Eastern Europe from
Grindelwald.  Grindelwald took power fair and square, he was elected and every law he and his men have changed has been perfectly legal, thank you very much. The only excuse that Dumbledore has is the possibility of 'marrying' Grindelwald, and thus turning their duel into
a large international domestic dispute. Aberforth swears it will never work, but Albus is a stickler for the law...
  1. Adventures in Harry-sitting

GellerT and Albus decide to give their neighbors a break and baby sit the Potters five
year old child, Harry.   Besides, Araina adores the boy, and Harry hasn't tugged on Albus beard in a long time…and besides, baby sitting can't be that hard, can it?

Words cannot describe how bad of an idea this is…

  1. Bedtime Stories

Araina tells little Harry how his two favorite wizards met and got married. Albus and
Gellert listen, horrified in the other room.

Epics…or possibly so.

In a world where Grindelwald and Dumbledore were, in fact, the glorious leaders of
a revolution. Muggles still have rights, due to Albus influence... However, a
dark wizard named Voldemort has begun to create a stir, and has begun to attack
anyone not 'magically normal'.  His first target? The last of the Peverells, (And Albus and Gellerts adopted family) the Potters.
Featuring young James, crazy Peverall cousins and Godrics Hollow. Because who doesn't
love the big GHtown, huh?

Family Connections

Voldemort has made a startling realization- Grindelwald's symbol was carved into the door
frame above the Potters front door… When Voldemort confronts Grindelwald about
it, Grindelwald explains that it is a family crest, nothing more… (He is attempting to keep ol' Voldy from the Deathly Hallows. How sweet! :) Voldemort now believes that Grindelwald can break through the blood wards surrounding the Dursleys home. The problem is- he is right.  Since some of the strongest wards protecting Harry are intent wards, and Grindelwald has no intent of harming Harry Potter.  Instead, Grindelwald makes it into the Dursley's home and tells Harry to get a message to Dumbledore- not exactly an easy task, but they do manage… Now, Grindelwald is in Dumbledores' protective custody, Harry is living in Godrics Hollow with
the duo and no one is less amused than Aberforth Dumbledore.
