Ami_Mizuno stalks in, notebook and laptop in hand as always. "...Oh! Hello there." She smiles.
Metody smiles happily at her. "Hello! I didn't think anyone would be around so early." He is wearing a brand new shirt, courtesy of the Steel City University Blood Drive. It's actually rather attractive, with a slightly stylized row of smokestacks across the front
Njoki is now known as takhys
Ami_Mizuno smiles, opening her laptop. "My world's time and the Nexus's don't sync well, it's hard to guess what time or even what month it will be when I get here."
Metody: "Oh, that sounds annoying." He drifts over to a comfy chair and flops down. "I'm Metody Green. Um. Earth, . Not that that really helps, I guess." He smiles sheepishly
Ami_Mizuno nods and bows. "Mizuno Ami, Japan . If your Earth has one, not all of them do."
Metody bows back, a little awkwad and obviously copying her. Just to be safe, he does it slightly deeper than she does. "Yep, we do. Um. It's a series of volcanic islands, prone to earthquakes, some good hotsprings, worried about tsunamis? Exports technology, culture and anime? I'm from the northeastern USA, though the more I talk to people, the more I suspect I don't overlap with great precision."
Ami_Mizuno raises an eyebrow at Metody quietly. Anime. Seriously? ...Like she can really question it. But it -- oh come ON. "Something like that."
Metody nods. It helped him place her, though probably not as much as he hoped. He sips his slushy
Ami_Mizuno: "Some of them have been immune to electricity, but there's not enough data to develop a working venom..." She scribbles something down in her notebook, leafing through a history book.
Metody: "Hmm?" He looks up from his thoughts, attention caught
Ami_Mizuno: "Oh! Sorry, just thinking out loud."
Metody: "Oh. Is there any way I could help?" It was that, or work on lesson plans. He infinitely prefered talking to strange people from strange places with strange problems.
Ami_Mizuno holds up her textbook, still wondering if she can bluff her way out of an explanation. "How much do you know about Japanese History?"
Metody: "I know a fair amount of pre-West history, and a little post-contact history, but very little of the events leading up to the World Wars. And I know a bit about mythology and monsters." Because really, who didn't?
Ami_Mizuno smiles. "Unfortunately, we're on a World War unit right now. Thank you for your offer, though!"
Metody: "Ah. Sorry - good luck, though." He wonders if anyone has done anything to chart all the differences between the worlds. It'd make an interesting paper. Surely, someone studied these things.
Ami_Mizuno nods. "Thank you." A few minutes frantic writing, and then she'll look up again with a little smile.
Metody: By the time she looks up, Metody has a textbook out and is reading it with the faintly desperate, faintly murderous expression of a man drowning in sand. Brain....shutting down.....eyelids.....so heavy....
Ami_Mizuno clears her throat a little in sympathy.
Metody looks up sheepishly. "Schoolwork." His tone says it all.
Ami_Mizuno nods. "It can be quite a hassle." Which... is exactly why she brought enough of it to bury herself in, if necessary.
Metody: "And never-ending."
Ami_Mizuno sighs. "It could be worse."
Metody: "True. I really shouldn't complain. I can think of quite a few things I'd rather do less, and that's just off the cuff."
Ami_Mizuno nods. "It's not my least favorite part of my daily schedule, to tell the truth."
Metody: "At least each assignment comes to an end, generally." Open ended assignments were the work of the devil. He smiles at her. "Do you have any hobbies? Those are much more pleasent to think about."
Ami_Mizuno nods. "I... They're mostly practical, actually. I'm a little busy these days to have that much down time..."
Metody: "Nothing wrong with practical hobbies. There's something very satisfying about knowing you've improved things when you're done having your fun."
Ami_Mizuno nods quietly. "I suppose you're right."
Metody casts around for a topic of conversation, then rummages in his bookbag. "Would you like a caramel?"
Ami_Mizuno: "Oh! Yes please."
Metody produces a baggie full of caramel and all but bounces over to her. The caramels prove to be homemade - lumps of sweetness wrapped in little twists of wax paper. "Take your pick. They're clean, but I'll be happy to eat a few if you'd like to see." He grins. "I never object to a chance to eat more candy."
Ami_Mizuno smiles a little. "I'm sure they're wonderful." She chooses one carefully, then pops it in her mouth and grins.
Metody takes one as well and happily eats it. They are almost (But not quite) overwhelmingly sweet and rich.
Ami_Mizuno signs her approval and leans back on the couch, returning to her notebook.
Metody regretfully returns to his book as well, chin propped up in hand. Gnrgh.
Metody: "So, what are you at school for?"
Ami_Mizuno: "I'm studying to be a doctor someday, but there's not much specialization at this stage."
Metody: "Oh, that's a wonderful field to go into. Have you decided on a specific kind of doctor?" He sounds utterly sincere.
Ami_Mizuno frowns. "I'm still considering options, to tell the truth." She's only thirteen, after all, super genius or not.
Metody nods a bit. "Some people change their focus almost right up until graduation."
Ami_Mizuno nods again.
