here. i left the albums' name, year, and artwork but changed the track number so you could listen in order. (there isn't any particular significance to it; basically they're arranged so the transitions are relatively smooth.) if you just want a couple of songs let me know and i can put them up individually; i just didn't feel like doing all of them when i'd rather be sleeping. heh. also, i forgot Spoon has a hidden song at the end, so, um... oops. luckily the silence in between is only 30 seconds, so it's not as terrible as it could've been.
1. St. Teresa by Joan Osborne - not necessarily a joan fan in general, but Relish is a pretty great album (aside from One of Us) and this is probably my favorite song on it. i love when her voice gets all raw and unpolished-sounding, and the folky guitar is quite nice.
2. Santana DVX (feat. E-40) by The Lonely Island - had to include TLI, obviously -- my current number one obsession. aside from being completely hilarious and awesome, i love this song for its Bay Area Pride. also, i saw Santana a few months ago at a mall near my mom's house. i didn't ask him about his champagne though. haha.
3. She's Your Cocaine by Tori Amos - even though i don't have her most recent albums, i consider tori a favorite. this song is funny and sexy and badass.
4. Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes - the first song of theirs that i loved. it used to be my official Sexiest Song Ever but now that i've gotten into all of their albums it has been surpassed. jack white is amazing.
5. Styrofoam Walls by Facing New York - my favorite band in the entire world. unfortunately there were no S songs on their latest album, but this song is sufficiently awesome. if you hate it i don't wanna know, but if you love it please do tell! :P
6. Soldier Jane by Beck - this is one of my theme songs, aka songs with which i over-identify.
7. Show Me Your Soul by Red Hot Chili Peppers - best love song ever.
observe.
8. So Broken by Björk - she has the most beautiful voice in the universe, and this song is a pretty good example. also very pretty music.
9. Slide by Ani DiFranco - another of my theme songs. "she laid down in her party dress and never got up / needless to say she missed the party / she just got sad / then she got stuck"
10. Summer Day (feat. Kirsten Dunst) by Coconut Records - lovely little duet and one of my favorites from jason's debut album.
11. Sailor Song by Regina Spektor - my second favorite singer as far as the actual singing goes. (she's also a fantastic songwriter, just a touch further down on that favorites list.)
12. Space Is The Place by Spacehog - the whole album is really great, but this song is particularly hilarious and also ultra slashy. good times!
13. Shady Lane by Pavement - i don't currently own any of their albums in full, but the songs i do have are very lovely. i especially enjoy this song because 'shady' is one of my nicknames, so hearing "everybody wants one / everybody needs one" amuses me. :)
14. So One Day.... by Sheila Nicholls - if i believed in god, this is what it'd be like. i can't find correct lyrics at the moment so i made my own:
So one day, Satan came through the gates of heaven
And he said, Look God who you tryin to kid
God is all, there is nothing that is not God
I am you, there is no distance
Oh, said God, so you finally forgave yourself
About time, good work, come on in would you like some tea
And the people evolved
And all the hatred dissolved
And all the hunger resolved
He said I am you, there is no distance etc etc
15. She's Leaving Home by The Beatles - one of the saddest songs i've ever heard. it always makes me cry.
16. The Saw-Playing Musician by Ani DiFranco & Utah Philips - this isn't exactly a song but it's awesome and funny and interesting. if anyone is at all interested in the rest of the album (there are actual songs as well as more stories), i will be glad to share because i think everyone should have it.
17. Stream by Tim Reynolds - amazing amazing amazing. it was the only song i kept from the album but it was still worth the purchase.
18. Spoon by Dave Matthews Band - i think this song is really beautiful and serenely melancholy, if that's possible.
19. Strange Face of Love by Tito and Tarantula - i have this because it was on Supernatural, but it's a rad song. the vocals are pretty epic. plus bonus antonio banderas at the beginning! hee.
20. Sad Reggie by Mad Caddies - another one of my favorite singers, though he uses his voice less beautifully on each consecutive album (that i've heard). this song isn't necessarily a favorite, but it was the only S.
21. Smile by Elastica - chick rock at its best. i love the growly bit at the end.
22. Sweet Darlin' by She & Him - super fun and pretty song by the fabulous zooey. ♥
23. Send His Love To Me by PJ Harvey - pj is one of my all-time favorites. i own & love all the albums. i was gonna do Snake from Rid of Me, but it's really quiet and i didn't want such inconsistent volume. :\ i'm seeing her with john parish on the 13th! i totally can't wait.
24. Swing It Low by Morphine - this band is wonderful and i love their vibe. apparently die-hard fans aren't into this album, but i love it. <3
25. Soul by Dan Bern - this song is basically exactly how i feel about mainstream music these days. lots of other things too, but music very specifically. and it makes me sad. :(
lyrics.
EDIT: i forgot to say comment if you want a letter! sheesh.
next item. Star Trek, you guys! !!! i somehow managed to not get excited about seeing it until i saw Bottle Shock two weeks ago and realized that chris pine is actually a pretty awesome actor (prior to that i had only been aware of his roles in lame teenybopper movies and Smokin' Aces). if you haven't seen Bottle Shock, i highly recommend it! it's based on the true story of the 1976 blind tasting wherein California wine first received international recognition for its high quality, and is basically an ode to Wine Country and the art of viniculture. having been born and raised here might make me a bit biased, but i still think it's a great movie. and Star Trek! it was so good. i saw it for the first time last monday and was ready to watch it again by the time we'd left the theatre. friday night
sainfoin_fields and i saw it in IMAX, which was even more amazing. and i'm still ready for another viewing -- eagerly awaiting it, even! <3
on monday night i arrived home to an anonymous virtual gift thanking me for my help on the Support board. even though i'm sure they were giving them to a number of people, i was very flattered. helping out there is a lot of fun when i have the time and energy, and i'm glad it's also appreciated by them. :)
i just found out last night from my dad that Gov. Schwartzy is shutting down a ton of parks in CA, most of which are in the bay area. (for info check out
calparks.org.) taking away a big part of what makes our state so beautiful and pleasant to live in is definitely not the answer to our financial woes. come on, guy.
and that's all i have to say for now. i leave you with a question:
