So I guess an update is in order, though I am feeling more in the mood for a rant; a feminist rant ( Read more... )

abortion, feminism

I have some good stuff for you. I shall email it to you along with some reference numbers of some great articles that are in the Law Lib. Unfortunately because I am no longer a student I could not get them out or photocopy them, but I have the reference numbers etc.

I wish I had juice dates.

I have a MySpace but I don't use it. I am addicted to LJ enough without having to add another internet bloggy thing to my addictions...Dude.

When reading your entry in your journal (not on my friends list), 4 out of the 5 ads were for adoation sites.

Abortion is good. Well, not good, but the right to choose is!

Adoption sites?

Adoption is a fantastic option but some women just cannot bring themselves to "give up" their baby after 10 months of carrying it, yet know that they also cannot have a child at that point in their lives.

I'm all for all options being legal and accessible to ALL women.

Adoption information sites, now its all health and pregnancy. I wasn't trying to make a point, just marvelling at the wonders of targetted advertising.

Yeah, true that. I wonder if the advertising is based upon the journal entries. I have noticed a couple of times that the advertising has corresponded with what I have written....interesting...

What really gripes me is *men* who oppose abortion. What the hell would they know about dealing with pregnancy? After all, a majority of the time it's women who are left responsible for their child born from an accidental pregnancy while the fathers go spread their seed elsewhere.
I agree, it is every womans own choice.

Exactly! I have seen on some journals from women in the States something along the lines of "70% of legislators opposing abortion are men, 100% can never get pregnant".

It just really grates me that men think that they can have control and authority over MY body. It's like Cullen today saying that reconstructive breast surgery for women with breast cancer is unimportant. What the fuck does he know about having breasts!!

I suspect religion more than gender influences attitudes to abortion. As religious fundamentalism increases, so to does opposition to things like abortions, gay marriage and secular science.

I would have to agree. I have said it many times before and I shall say it again....Religion and politics should not be mixed. Personal religious beliefs should not influence policy in any respect.

I think however, that the gender agruement is being made in the States because they are sick of banging their heads against a brick wall with the religio debate as no one is listening to them. It just adds another aspect to it.
