Taking A Poll

I get a lot of recruiting calls and I'm tired of calling the people back, especially places like Robert Half that are staffed by pushy/brusque people. What do y'all consider the protocol - just ignoring the msg if you're not interested, or is that impolite?

It's not impolite. They're playing a numbers game and don't expect 100% response rate.

(This may change a bit if they personally know you; I would basically always respond to someone if we'd ever gone far enough to meet in person, for instance.)

I tell the front desk that they're a recruiter and I never hear from them again. It's your life/job. Don't let the recruiters push you around, if you're not interested, you're not interested. I don't even bother returning calls. Flexy is right, it's a numbers game to them.

Definitely just ignore the calls. I still get the e-mails and calls, and I've been off the market for more than a year now.:/

For me it would depend on how long I thought I would be staying in my current job. More than a year ignore the msg, less than a year, aka I might be needing their services soon, then I would call back.
