The best oatmeal raisin cookies

I don't think there are too many people on my F-list who are familiar with Mrs. Seibold's Bakery in Granite City, where I grew up. The shop is a cherished childhood memory; Mom did her grocery shopping on early Saturday mornings and invariably would stop there to get an assortment of pastries, cookies, and bread ( Read more... )

Thanks for the recipe and stroll down memory lane. A few years back, I realized many of my mother's recipes were disintegrating ... they were from my grandmothers, family friends, etc ... I created a cookbook that was also a family history. Perhaps, you could capture your favorites in a similar format!

Good thing you were able to hang on to those recpies. My mom's mother was the real cook of the family -- on both sides -- and unfortunately a lot of her recipes left when she did. One of the things I grew up eating was her date bars. We tried to bake a batch based on a recipe we thought she was using; we failed miserably and can't figure out what she might have done differently.

I do want to get my aunt's recipe for bourbon balls. They are SO strong you can almost see the alcohol fumes rise from them...
