There is, as far as I have been able to find, one critical book based on The Once and Future King.  It is (appropriately titled) T.H. White's The Once and Future King by Elisabeth Brewer.  Since I am writing my thesis on White's book, I am also using Brewer's critical work.  It has been quite helpful in a number of areas.

Well, and the fact that Arthur killed a whole lot of babies. It's not so much of an ethical fallacy to be provoked by that.

I got your email, and will respond soon-- I have massive amounts of work, but am taking a 5 minute break just now.

Well yes, of course the baby-killing is provoking (I kind of hinted at that in ancestral feud). But in that quote, Brewer attributes his provocation to Arthur's patience and forbearance etc. which is what I think is false. So I'm not saying so much that Mordred shouldn't be provoked by Arthur but that Brewer is wrong to say that it's Arthur's patience that provokes him. Like you said, it's the attempted murder earlier on rather than the later forbearance.
