Welcome to my humble Canode

Why hello! I'm very excited because I went to Indiana this weekend and wrangled myself up a sweet apartment. I'm so excited about it. It's in downtown Lafayette, not to say that's anything to crow about, but it's near the bars, cafes, etc., and it's in an old, cool, house. It's sort of dark inside, and I love it. I can't wait to move in. ( Read more... )

Excellent! You are ready to be a star on the party scene, as well as the academic one. Did you meet any Purdue students?

And congrats to Brenna having a baby, though I do not know her. Isn't there some Tupac song 'bout Brenna having a baby? You should burn it on disc for her.

I did meet a few people. 1 person I already knew, he's in the dissertation writing stage, along with one other guy I met. Both very nice people. I met another guy who will be in his 2nd year, and a woman who will also be in her 2nd year. I feel a little strange because I don't want to be seen as the person who isn't really a philosopher. I don't want to be "philosophy-lite"...And I always feel like everyone is smarter than I am.
But everyone was super nice. I guess a few years ago the dept. was much more social, but now just a very few select people hang out. It will be cool, though. I'm looking forward to moving day, for sure. Indiana winters have to be a little better than Michigan's right?

I love dark apartments. Seriously.

Social is overrated. Or, I should say, I always prefer a good friend or two to a big group.

That program is not philosophy-lite, so don't sweat it. So Spaketh The King.

Yeah, the darkness of it makes me extra excited. I actually have a question about some of the courses there...perhaps you could advise?

Congrats, J! The new place sounds great. I'm really excited for you, getting into this program and moving to a new city and everything. It's so thrilling!
