Unix is a family of operating systems that comply with the Unix Specification, while Linux is a family of operating systems that are based on and similar to the Unix family of operating systems, but are not fully compliant with the Unix Specification.

Do I win?

your sentence has been deemed "very thourough and comprehensive" by the judge, but he's thinking of making a 10 word limit next time.

But it is a run-on! "While" and "but" are both conjunctions and cannot be included without the use of a semicolon!

'While' is a subordinating conjunction, meaning that the while clause is a subordinate clause, cannot stand alone, and can be included in a sentence with an independent clause with no problems or semicolons. 'But' is a coordinating conjunction in this case used to join two predicates, again without a semicolon (though the comma that's there shouldn't be).

One is a transdeletion of the other.

Google certainly knows about "transdeletion":

Personalized Results 1 - 20 of about 174 for transdeletion. (0.33 seconds)

*I* didn't know about transdeletion until now...but now I'm going to have to use the technique in a poem someday....

174 results is not "knowing" in the world of google. That's worse than some pretty rare typos.

Linux® is the deceptively free version of UNIX®.

Too snarky? Um...

Linux® is the version of UNIX® that comes with a free audioclip of Linus Torvalds.
