I am so glad ( sometimes) that i don't have t.v. When "reality" shows started happening on every damned channel I boycotted tv ..while I do miss some neat shows I don't miss this kind of garbage

Bear Grylls is an idiot, and has demonstrated it time and time again in his shows.
He does incredibly dangerous stunts in every show, taking 'shotcuts through flooded caves', setting to sea on rafts that are falling apart even before they're launched, and so on. In fact, if his fans do as him, I wouldn't worry about the bats because there won't be any of his fans alive to harm them...
He claims to have been with the SAS, but... They practive Winter Warfare with the Norwegian FSK(The spceial operations teams voted 'Team they least want to piss off' by the SEALs) and MJK/HJK(Navy and army Jaegers. ), and the way Bear handles winter conditions?
It just doesn't make sense, unless he was booted out before he could get that training...
I actually generally like Bear Grylls. I definitely think he was wrong in this case, but in his defense, he doesn't normally kill animals on the show and instead usually eats bugs to survive. He has a phobia of bats, which is probably what made him look "gleeful." My guess is that panic was mistaken for glee in this instance.
This time he was just killing them for no reason at all. he wasn't eating bats, he just up and decided to smoke them out and beat and step on them. Unfortunately most of my reading up on him he isn't well liked, especially by real survivalists.
He also doesn't actually do real "survival" as when he isn't in front of cameras he is in a lush "base camp" with every luxury. To most people that isn't real survival tactics. No one should have to live in those conditions all of the time but the fake acting like your surviving while you in front of the cam.. ehh. Not much respect there.
No one understands why he felt the need to just go off and kill bats, i don't like spiders but I am not out hunting then down in their own habitat killing them off just because i can't stand em.I am just really surprised that even made it on the show.
Depends on which survivalist you ask as to whether or not he's liked. :-) It's common knowledge that he stays at a base camp. My stepfather likes him, and my stepdad's pretty badass in the survivalist department. He also occasionally stays in hotels. The show even has a disclaimer that events are re-enacted. Again, I'm not defending him in this instance. I haven't seen the clip, nor, apparently, is it even available for me to see so that I may make a judgment call myself rather than relying on one article--I'm all for animal rights, but I don't trust most animal rights activists because they propagate false information and use scare tactics. I do know that he has a severe bat phobia, not just a dislike.
Amen to that. I have seen more animal rights groups do ten times the harm that they are supposed to be stopping.. letting animals "go free" where they can't survive.. full on killing them when they find them in labs.. and that helped them how? Pita is my least favorite. Out there on our free-way overpasses in animal costumes with big banners jumping up and down and throwing things at cars causing huge traffic jams and any number of unsafe situations. A bunch of really passionate ill-educated or informed people can cause all kinds of messes.
I unfortunately used to have a friend who loved to jump on any bandwagon to "save this be and activist for that" only to find out later more harm was done then help. The whole not reading into it first thing and getting all riled up before you know the facts deal.
