Yup...

Long time no see. Haven't had anytime as of late. Well...where to start ..guess I'll start with Chris. Sorry for not posting this earlier when I found out, but he apparently has completely rejected the truth, he's tried to bring crosses and things of that nature into their house, and I'm told he believes that Jesus is God. So he's not only rejected ( Read more... )

That's rough man, I know what it feels like to have a good friend just all of the sudden decide he doesn't want the truth anymore. I just played Halo with him the other night online and he seemed the same, though I guess it's not like he's going to just come out and say something like, "I like crosses"

I would say just look through the reasoning book for your answers, they have applicable scriptures and illustrations

Yeah he didn't seem that different to me but apparently it had been going on for awhile.
And yes I looked through the Reasoning book already. First thing I did ;)

I heard about this a few weeks ago from Matt. Very sad news. Anyways, if for some reason you get a chance to talk to him (if he is reasonable) and the "Jesus is God" issue comes up, there are endless scriptures which obviously contradict that, just look at the subject "trinity" in the reasoning book. Jesus himself said he has to obey his father and that his father is greater than he is (John 14:28, which is but one of many verses like this) Some people will try to say "Well, Jesus said the father is greater than he is because that was when he was on earth. He had a 'dual nature' and when he was on earth he was a man, when he went back to heaven he was God/equal to God again." Wrong. For that, refer them to 1 Corinthians 15:24-28. These verses state that even after he is in heaven (these verses deal with his kingdom reign during the 1,000 years), he still submits to Jehovah and has to hand the kingdom back to his Father. The last parts of these verses then clearly state that the Son must submit to the Father "who submitted all things ( ... )

Ah, that's a good lad. :)

BTW, I was wrong about the word xylon. Just like the word stauros, it also means "stake, pole, tree, timber" and so on. In any case, the bottom line is that if there's a greek word that corresponds with cross, it aint in the bible. :p
