I don't get it...We get most of our oil from other countries, right? That's the whole reason that we have to pay so much for gas here, while people off in Saudi Arabia and such get richer and richer, right? Then why does gas go up 50 cents in 2 days when a hurricane hits America? Ugh.

(1) we get most of our oil from other countries, but we process it into gasoline in the gulf coast states.
(2) because the hurricane is "threatening" the gulf coast region, there is a "fear" that the refineries will be damaged, thus causing a "shortage" of gasoline. (bullshit!)
(3) the price went up because the oil companies are basically a monopoly and can charge what ever they want.
