The day started foggy, we weren't able to see anything beyond the ship and every few minutes the boat would blow its horn. Loudly. It was a deep and long (woo!) sound and it was cool to hear it echo around. Then after awhile it burned off and we had some spectacular scenery and we spotted more wales, orcas this time (killer whales).
It was a beautiful day!
DH decided to try the rock climbing wall. I was too chicken to try, figured my huge ass would become an anchor and pull me off the wall. DH did 3 different lines, from easy to harder bit by bit. He couldn't complete the 3rd line because his hands started hurting. He needs to go in for an MRI on his hands, but his doctor keeps putting him off "come back in 2 months, come back in another 2 months after being on naproxin".
The show this last night was a stunt team sort of. Balancing, juggling, etc. Here the guy is balancing on 3 wooden shelves on top of a metal tube, while he steps through a hoop. Then his wife twirls hula-hoops, making them go up and down her entire body. He also twirled a sword, but having been a majorette, I don't think it really looked all that difficult. LOL He and his wife did several things like this, and it was neat to watch.
and waiting for dinner after the show. We also went in and hit the slots, penny slots this time, and I lost 6, but then won like 35 free spins and ended up winning $15.
Then we went to the keroke finals. Bryson, our tablemate, sang "Crazy" by Patsy Cline. She did awesome, but didn't win. :( There were some really amazing singers and a few who could sing and enteratain the crowd at the same time. I haven't been to a kerioke thing in decades practically, so I'm sure I'm WAY out of touch with the level of this now! (the lady 3 in from the left won)
Our last towel creation - a sunbather.
The next day we woke up, ate breakfast and then got off the boat. It was very quick and easy to get off and pick up our luggage. They called our group to depart and we through luggage, had our baggage loaded in the car and heading down the road in a half-hour. It went really fast!
We went up and picked up the boys, took us about an hour drive from where we docked. They were excited to see us and show us their new power wheel quads.
They have been clingy and hyper and antagonistic since we all got home, I think its going to be a couple days to adjust.
I gotta run to the grocery store. I went to go earlier but the Durango's check engine light came on so I returned home empty handed to have DH look at it. Easy fix, he says. Whew!
Its a shock to the system to be home, to say the least. Its hard to jump right in to them fighting, not listening and throwing their toys around and hearing DH deal with them. This part is so not going well. Hopefully, things will mellow out this week. I notice how I hold myself back more than I did in life before I was married. he is reserved, serious. And I tend to be that now too, and always was somewhat before too. But I have a harder time loosening up and I have very little self confidence now. Its been an interesting and thought provoking week.
In all, the trip was great. Cruising was a bit different than I had expected. Its a lot more 'herdish' than I had expected. I learned that to get a lot out of it, I need to put myself out there and join in - something I have a hard time doing with my DH. Alaska was an inexpensive cruise (in comparison) because it was ported out of Seattle, but I was a bit disappointed with how much it was just like home, beautiful still though. I just had expected something different. But I really liked it, don't get me wrong, I just expected something different. I hear the interior is more of what I would be expecting. DH and I have talked about either a road trip up when the boys are older, or taking the marine ferry (think cruise ship but for cheap people, ala teenagers with tents and couples in motorhomes - no staterooms or entertainment).
Next cruise, probably So/Cal & Mexico (pacific side), because again, its fairly inexpensive for us on the West Coast. Then it would be anything open after that, because the cost would even out if we were to port elsewhere or take a longer trip from San Diego area. I think someplace with history, DH just wants to relax. But if anything, its about 5 years off for our 10th anniversary.
